Corinthians 1:18-25: "...the message of the cross is
foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it
is the power of God. For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the
wise,
And bring to nothing the understanding of
the prudent.”
Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this
age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
(21) For since, in the wisdom
of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased
God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who
believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;
but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to
the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and
Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom
of God.
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.... You are my friends, if you do what I command you." (John 15:12, 14)
"Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord
your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your
mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it:
‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself."’ (Matthew 22:37-39)
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with
all your soul, and with all your strength. And
these words which I command you today shall be in your heart." (Deut. 6:5-6)
“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I
command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in
His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes,
and His judgments, that you may live and multiply..." (Deut. 30:15-16)
"...take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant
of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His
ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to
serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Joshua 22:5)
