Signs of the times

In Old Testament days, God's people faced war, famine and/or pestilence whenever they turned from Him and pursued "other gods."  His Word tells us that these signs will multiply at "the end of the age."

“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven."

Luke 21:10-11

To prepare His people for future events, Jesus told His disciples,

"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near... Watch therefore...." Matthew  24:32-33, 42

As reminders to "watch" and be ready, Scripture references to prophesied trends and events will be added to corresponding news items.
