God's Judgment on Nations

Because Israel -- like other countries throughout history -- rejected His truth, worshipped other gods and attacked God's faithful and uncompromising remnant, it would face God's judgment. The natural, social and political consequences would devastate the proud and powerful nation. The same could happen to America.  See 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 and America's Spiritual Slide

Notice God's sovereign justice and will in these sad warnings to rebellious Israel. The enemies that rose against God's people -- primarily Assyria and Babylon -- were sent by God to accomplish His justice and to awaken His complacent and wayward people to His mercy and love.

"Behold I will bring a nation against you from afar,

O house of Israel,' says the Lord. 'It is an ancient nation,

A nation whose language you do not know,

Nor can you understand what they say.

They are all mighty men,

And they shall eat up your harvest and your bread,

Which your sons and daughters should eat."   Jeremiah 5:15-17

"And it shall come to pass in that day

That the Lord will whistle for the fly

That is in the farthest part of the rivers of Egypt

And for the bee that is in the land of Assyria [Israel's powerful enemies]

Thy will come...."   Isaiah 7:18

"For it is a day of trouble and treading down and perplexity....

He removed the protection of Judah.

You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest....

And the houses you broke down to fortify the wall....

But you did not look to its Maker,

Nor did you have respect for Him who fashioned it long ago." Isaiah 22:5, 8-11

"For behold, the Lord comes... to punish the inhabitants of the earth for the earth for their iniquity."  Isaiah 26:21

"All you beasts of the field, come to devour,

All you beasts of the forest.

His watchmen are blind, they are ignorant,

They are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark....

They are shepherds who cannot understand,

They all look to their own way,

Everyone for his own gain, from his own territory....

'Come,' one says....

Tomorrow will be as today,

And much more abundant.'"  Isaiah 56:9-12

Since those Old Testament times, atonement for sins and eternal life with Jesus has been made available to everyone through the cross.  See  What it means to be a Christian
