Dangerous friendships and alliances

Because Israel -- like other countries throughout history -- made practical alliances with those who hated God, it often faced defeat. The natural, social and political consequences would devastate the proud and powerful nation. The same could happen to America.  See 1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Since those Old Testament times, personal victory and salvation has been made available to individual believers through the cross.  See What it means to be a Christian

"He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed." Proverbs 13:20

Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, "Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Therefore the wrath of the Lord is upon you. Nevertheless good things are found in you, in that you have removed the wooden images from the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God." 2 Chronicles 19:2

Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, "Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the Lord has destroyed your works." Then the ships were wrecked, so that they were not able to go to Tarshish." 2 Chronicles 20:37

"For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they have become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you."  Joshua 7:11-12

"Why do You look on those who deal treacherously,

And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours

A person more righteous than he?" Habakkuk 1:13
