Lawlessness. Part of U.S. Falls to Mexican Gang: "Because the federal government refuses to protect the border, about 3,500 acres of southern Arizona near Mexico has been closed to U.S. citizens for fear of violence from Mexican drug gangs. The area includes part of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge, once enjoyed by American taxpayers....

    "... illegal aliens, heavily armed Mexican drug gangs and other smugglers use the unguarded area to gain access to the U.S.... The area stretches 80 miles along the border with Mexico....

Taking a Stand. Answering Bonhoeffer's Critics: Our article "Nazi Religion versus 'Religionless' Faith" brought an interesting blend of approving and critical responses....

     First allegation: "[Bonhoeffer] did not die for his faith in Christ, but rather for his participation in one of the plots to assassinate Adolph Hitler."

     "Response: Actually, Bonhoeffer was imprisoned for rescuing Jews during Hitler's deadly purge. While in prison, he served as a pastor and encourager to all around him. His friends, including some appreciative guards who truly cared about him, planned an escape that would have brought him safely out of Hitler's reach. Serving the needy. Pakistan: Helping Flood Victims: "Pakistan has been pummeled by its worst monsoon floods in 102 years.... Tens of thousands of villages are under water, roads and bridges have been washed away and diseases are spreading throughout the flood area. According to news reports, many of the flood victims have not yet received any sort of relief....  The VOM [Voice of the Martyr] team traveled to the region and passed out Action Packs and Bibles to affected believers....One man told the team he was thankful to God, because even though his family lost everything, the Lord saved their lives." Toward Global Socialism. "Moral Hazard" in Politics (by Thomas Sowell) : "One of the things that makes it tough to figure out how much has to be charged for insurance is that people behave differently when they are insured from the way they behave when they are not insured.... International studies show that people in countries with more generous and long-lasting unemployment compensation spend less time looking for jobs. In the United States, where unemployment compensation is less generous than in Western Europe, unemployed Americans spend more hours looking for work...

      "After welfare became more readily available in the 1960s, unwed motherhood skyrocketed. The country is still paying the price...the money is the least of it. Military Service. Afghan outrage: U.S. troops scrounge for blankets, bullets: "One of my soldiers went without ammo for five weeks once they got to Afghanistan because of shortages.'" Psalm 62:5-8

Migration.  Feds moving to dismiss some deportation cases Critics assail the plan as a bid to create a kind of backdoor 'amnesty': "The Department of Homeland Security is systematically reviewing thousands of pending immigration cases and moving to dismiss those filed against suspected illegal immigrants who have no serious criminal records, according to several sources familiar with the efforts." Global Management System.
