God bless America

"Stand beside her, and guide her

Thru the night with a light from above."

In early 1940, Kate Smith, a loyal American from Missouri -- and the biggest star on radio at the time, was deeply concerned about our country.

She asked Irving Berlin if he could write a song that would re-ignite the spirit of love and appreciation for our land. He said he had written such a song 1917, but he had never used. He told her she could have it.

She played it on the piano and realized how good it was. They agreed that any money that  made from the song would be donated to the Boy Scouts of America.

Thanks to Kate Smith and Irving Berlin, the Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties.

Kate Smith helped re-awakening faith in God and loyalty to America with that song. God Bless America, land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.

[But would the people follow His guidance?]
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

Kate Smith would have been even more worried, if she had been living today.

You may want to read this article: "Walnuts, Milk and Global Tyranny." At this point in time, America hardly deserves God's blessings. But let us pray that the difficulties ahead will turn many hearts back to Him!

"For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive,
And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You."  Psalm 86:4

A reminder from an almost forgotten past:

From Washington's Farewell Address, 1796 (His warnings fit our times): "One method of assault may be to effect in the forms of the Constitution alterations... and thus to undermine what cannot be directly overthrown.... The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments in one, and thus to create, whatever the form of government, a real despotism....
"And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion [i.e. Christianity]. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect, that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.
"...a passionate attachment of one Nation for another produces a variety of evils. ...it gives to ambitious, corrupted, or deluded citizens... facility to betray or sacrifice the interests of their own country without odium, sometimes even with popularity..."
