Global Banking: The International Monetary Fund: "The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a public institution, established with money provided by taxpayers around the world....The IMF was actually created in December, 1945 when the first 29 member nations signed its Articles of Agreement. ...the member subordinates a certain part of its legal sovereignty to the IMF. This sets the stage for the IMF to take an active role in the affairs of the member country...

     "The principal architects... were Harry Dexter White and John Maynard Keynes.... On October 16, 1950, an FBI memo identified White as a Soviet spy. ...

     "Moral hazard is the term given to the increased risk of immoral behavior resulting in a negative outcome (the "hazard"), because the persons who increased the risk potential in the first place either suffer no consequences, or benefit from it.... 'The IMF actually encourages bankers and investors to take imprudent risk by providing taxpayer funds to bail them out. It encourages corrupt governments to engage in boom and bust policies by coming to their rescue whenever they run out of dollar reserves."

EU states that berated Bush on Kyoto fail to hit emissions targets: "The poorly performing nations are among the many who have criticised the US and President George Bush - who early in his presidency declared Kyoto 'dead' - for refusing to sign up to the agreement because of fears it would limit economic growth. However, earlier this month - after fierce negotiations at a United Nations conference in Montreal, Canada - the US did agree to a 'non-binding dialogue to respond to climate change', aimed at setting new mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions after 2012." That leaves the consequences in the hands of the next president.

US walks out of Climate talks as 150 nations move forward: "Campaigners hailed the apparent progress on Kyoto (albeit without the US) as a vital step forward in the effort to deal with climate change and said it showed the willingness of more than 150 nations to commit themselves to the process. Of those nations, 36 are legally bound to cut their emissions of greenhouse gases. But amid that progress, the elephant in the room remained the refusal of the Bush administration to act." That's good!

repeat The Theology of Global Warming: "The issue of climate change urgently needs to be brought down from the level of theology to what we actually know. ... The insistence that global warming is primarily the consequence of human activity leaves scant room for variation in solar intensity or cyclical phenomena....

     "Over the ages, climate has varied. Generally speaking, the Northern Hemisphere has been warming since the end of the Little Ice Age in the 17th century. Most of the global warming observed in the 20th century occurred between 1900 and 1940, when the release of greenhouse gasses was far less than later in the century. Between 1940 and 1975, temperatures fell -- and scientists feared a lengthy period of global cooling....

     "...science is not a matter of consensus.... Verification is more than computer simulations -- whose conclusions mirror the assumptions built in the model." (WSJ, 8-8-05)

Bill Gates Teams Up With UNESCO: "On November 17, 2004 at UNESCO's headquarters in Paris, UNESCO signed a 26-page 'Cooperation Agreement' with Microsoft Corporation to develop a 'master curriculum (Syllabus)' for teacher training in information technologies based on standards, guidelines, benchmarks, and assessment techniques. The Agreement states that the Syllabus will 'form the basis for deriving training content to be delivered to teachers,' and 'UNESCO will explore how to facilitate content development.'...
     "One of its goals, [said UNESCO Director General Matsuura], is 'fostering web-based communities of practice including content development and worldwide curricula reflecting UNESCO values.' No doubt that is agreeable to Bill Gates because the Agreement states that 'Microsoft supports the objectives of UNESCO as stipulated in UNESCO's Constitution.'"

   So does our President, who brought us back into UNESCO two years ago, and the US Department of Education. But 1991, the former President Bush announced the US acceptance of UNESCO goals for global education. See Brave New Schools, Chapter 2: The International Agenda

The Global Elite: Who are they? "The global elite march in three essential columns: Corporate, Political and Academic....

      "...the stampede to globalism is conducted by a small group of individuals with aspirations for global dominance. ... In general, they are driven by lust for money and power. They have clearly made an end-run around the American people in order to achieve personal goals that, in many cases, are diametrically opposed to U.S. interests....

     "In 1971, Zbigniew Brzezinski wrote... 'the nation-state as a fundamental unit of man's organized life has ceased to be the principal creative force: International banks and multinational corporations are acting and planning in terms that are far in advance of the political concepts of the nation-state.'" Beware a 'Digital Munich': "An anonymous group of international technocrats holds secretive meetings in Geneva. Their cover story: devising a blueprint to help the developing world more fully participate in the digital revolution. Their real mission: strategizing to take over management of the Internet from the U.S. and enable the United Nations to dominate and politicize the World Wide Web. Does it sound too bizarre to be true? Regrettably, much of what emanates these days from the U.N. does. ....The threat is posed by the U.N.-sponsored World Summit on the Information Society taking place later this month in Tunisia." [11-7-05] Please pray that God preserve our freedom to encourage each other around the world."

The next link gives another illustration of deceptive UN goals. The UN bureaucrats care more about control than poverty. But poverty provides the crises needed to gain control:

U.N.'s Excessive, Absurd 'Biosafety Protocol': "Last month in Tokyo I participated in a bizarre meeting of the U.N.-sponsored task force on biotechnology-derived foods. The scope of the work, which has gone on for five years, is unscientific, the projects are pointless and gratuitous, the attendees (from scores of countries) are inexpert, and political correctness prevails....

      "This task force, operating under the auspices of the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization, makes a mockery of the U.N.'s own Millennium Development Goals -- especially the first and most ambitious: 'to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger' by 2015. Global Banking: The Bank for International Settlements: "When David Rockefeller and Zbigniew Brzezinski founded the Trilateral Commission in 1973, the intent was to create a 'New International Economic Order' (NIEO). To this end, they brought together 300 elite corporate, political and academic leaders from North America, Japan and Europe....

     " ...how did they do it? The answer is the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), self-described as the 'central bank for central bankers', that controls the vast global banking system with the precision of a Swiss watch." See Reinventing the World

Business as Usual: "...the U.N.'s failures of governance are not confined to such special projects as the Oil for Food program. If anything, Oil for Food looks more and more like a large outcropping of U.N. business as usual."

Here Come the UN Army & Police: "Bush's State Department signed a document on September 15 that would result in an unprecedented militarization of the United Nations. The 2005 World Summit Outcomes document... would initiate a new standing UN police force. ...

    "The guiding hand above and behind all of this was the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Most of the Task Force members (including the two co-chairmen, Newt Gingrich and George J. Mitchell), as well as a large number of the individuals assigned to help as their 'experts,' are CFR members. The CFR, which has accurately been called the "invisible government" running America, has been one of the most potent elite forces pushing for world government for the past eight decades....

    "...the Bush administration publicly proposed the creation of an immense UN military force in April 2004. The Bush proposal, named the Global Peace Operations Initiative, pledged some $600 million -- mostly from the cash-strapped U.S. Defense budget -- to train and equip roughly 75,000 foreign military personnel in peacekeeping and peace enforcement operations over five years." Clinton One-World Government Conference to Address 'Threat' of Religion: "Former US President Bill Clinton has long dreamed of power in international affairs. He has long been rumoured to be the next to be tapped for UN Secretary General.... Clinton’s latest project, the Clinton Global Initiative, (CGI), has attracted 1000 of the world’s most prominent internationalist movers and shakers....

    "The CGI proposes to address 'Religion Conflict and Resolution.' ... For many in the international movement towards a single world government, religion, particularly 'traditional' Christianity and Judaism represent not a unifying and stabilizing force for good, but a major obstacle to their goals of a universal secular state. The Intelligent Student's Guide to the New World Order: "Grouping People to Control Them.... CONTROL is accomplished by influencing groups, and most particularly group leaders. This is because people who are emotionally involved with groups respond to leadership....

    "Through CONSOLIDATION into national or international 'blanket' organizations, one person or a small group of people can make decisions and set goals for hundreds of thousands, or even millions of people. They can set goals for you if you do not object. Always remember, whoever sets your goals or presents you with what they call a vision or a mission [or purpose], CONTROLS your behavior....

U.S. loses big at the U.N.: "...despite the oil-for-food and U.N.-peacekeeper sex-abuse scandals, the world organization came out of its recent World Summit more powerful than ever....

     "U.N. adviser Jeffrey Sachs says the MDGs obligate the U.S. to spend an additional $845 billion on foreign aid. ... President Bush, in his U.N. speech, declared that 'We are committed to the Millennium Development goals.'” See Warren's P.E.A.C.E. Plan & UN Goals

The Coming Economic Pandemic in AIDS Treatment? "The World Health Organization (WHO) initiated a scale-up on global AIDS treatment in December 2003. At the time, it announced its goal to have three million patients under antiretroviral (ARV) therapy by the end of 2005.... It now reports that almost one million patients are receiving treatment....

      "But as bad as this [AIDS] tragedy is, an even larger tragedy looms in the distance, and it is a direct result of the WHO's hasty and ill-conceived scale-up effort. ... Neither Feachem nor officials at WHO, however, have... focused public attention on an emerging economic pandemic being set in train by drug resistance in the treatment of AIDS patients."

46 of 47 U.S. Biosphere Reserves fail to meet U.N. requirements: "Among the many compliance shortfalls is the requirement for a '...mechanism to manage human use and activities' and the absence of participation by 'public authorities' and 'local communities' in the functions of a Biosphere Reserve. ... Biosphere Reserves include core wilderness areas that are off limits to most human activity; buffer zones, where limited human activity is permitted; and 'transitional zones' where human use and activities are to be managed for conservation and sustainable development objectives.
     Neither Congress, nor any state legislature has ever voted to designate these areas as U.N. Biosphere Reserves, nor is there any evidence that any elected body of "public authorities" has ever voted to be a part of such designations." See Food Summit Speeds U.N Agenda

Internal Poverty Conference set for Washington: "More than 30 leaders of Christian denominations worldwide will gather at Washington National Cathedral on Sunday , Sept. 11, to affirm the UN plan to halve extreme poverty by 2015 and propose stepped up action to eradicate poverty throughout the world. Participants will call for a recommitment to achieve the Millennium Development Goals....

    "The event, 'Consultation of Religious Leaders on Global Poverty,' will open with a series of worship services and lectures in the Cathedral nave, including a 2 p.m. speech by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and special advisor to U.N. US accepts UN offer to rush aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina: “'The UN's coordination team in Washington will be based at the newly established USAID Hurricane Katrina Operations Center, where offers of international assistance are being coordinated,' a UN spokesman said."

US won't let Canada help Katrina victims: "...support was offered from Canada. Planes are ready to load with food and medical supplies.... [Yet] Canada has not been allowed to fly supplies and personnel to the areas hit by Katrina."

     But Mexican troops and UN personnel are welcomed. Why? Is this disaster being used for political purposes -- such as building support for United Nations and for our open border and imminent union with Mexico?

Regionalism. Mexican Troops On US Soil: "Mexican army convoys and a navy ship laden with food, supplies and specialists traveled to the United States Wednesday to help in the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.... A convoy of 45 vehicles and 196 soldiers arrived at the border city of Nuevo Laredo Wednesday night." See The Merging of the Americas in a New Global Order
NATO Preparing to Deliver Katrina Aid: "The United States turned Thursday to its allies in NATO, which sent AWACs planes to patrol U.S. skies after the Sept. 11 attacks, to help bring in desperately needed food and supplies for the hundreds of thousands of Americans left homeless by Hurricane Katrina."

[Bill] Clinton Global Initiative: "It is my pleasure to announce the inaugural meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative to be held September 15-17, 2005, in New York City. This event, which will bring together ... Prime Minister Tony Blair, Secretary General Kofi Annan, Vice Premier Shimon Peres... Sonia Gandhi, Rupert Murdoch... and an array of other distinguished and dedicated leaders, will coincide with and complement this fall's Millennium Summit. ...

     "The workshops will focus on how to reduce poverty; use religion as a force for reconciliation and conflict resolution; implement new business strategies and technologies to combat climate change; and strengthen governance. Our meeting will emphasize dynamic group interaction to identify an agenda we can actually implement."

   The Rockefeller Foundation is a major sponsor. The participants include Al Gore, Rupert Murdock (owner of Zondervan, Rick Warren's publisher) and Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, who has welcomed Rick Warren's purpose-driven PEACE Plan as a solution to the problems of poverty, AIDS and development. His plans are grand, but can he save the world? "The world’s greatest thinkers, most powerful politicians and wealthiest entrepreneurs have for decades been trying to solve global problems like poverty, disease and hunger, with little success. ... Scepticism is therefore high when former US president Bill Clinton comes on the telephone and, in his southern drawl, announces that he thinks he has a foolproof plan to save the planet." United in greed, divided it falls: "You'll recall that Kofi Annan's son Kojo - who had a $30,000-a-year job but managed to find a spare quarter-million dollars sitting around to invest in a Swiss football club - has been under investigation for some time for his alleged ties to the Oil-for-Food programme. But the investigators have now broadened their sights to include Kofi's brother Kobina Annan.... The actual head of the Oil-for-Food racket, Kofi sidekick Benon Sevan, has resigned, having hitherto insisted that a mysterious six-figure sum in his bank account was a gift from his elderly aunt, a lady of modest means who lived in a two-room flat back in Cyprus." Is your community being transformed? "These sustainable communities are being formed all across the country. The process erodes the power of local elected officials.... The people, however, are forced to live by the rules and regulations imposed by the professionals....

     "This population control commandment reminded me of what I had witnessed back in 1997 while attending the Global Citizenship 2000 Youth Congress. Held in Vancouver, BC, the purpose of this event was to incite national changes to the Canadian educational system; specifically, to instill Earth-centric values through the adoption of Robert Muller's World Core Curriculum - a philosophy of education that incorporates global citizenship and pantheistic concepts."

Live 8 puts pressure on G8 leaders: "Over a million people listened to rock and pop musicians at 10 venues across four continents Saturday demanding that the G8 nations move to help Africa. ... Paul McCartney and U2 opened the flagship show of the free 10-concert festival with a rousing performance of 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.' ... Geldof appeared onstage to introduce Microsoft billionaire and philanthropist Gates, whom the crowd greeted with a rock star's roar....The crowd joined in as REM sang 'Man on the Moon,' then heard U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan declare: 'This is really the United Nations ... The whole world has come together in solidarity with the poor.'" CAFTA Is a Bad Deal for the United States: "The United States signed CAFTA (Central America Free Trade Agreement) in May 2004 with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua....

     "U.S. Trade Representative Robert B. Zoellick sent a letter to the governors of 50 states in September 2003 asking them to 'sign on' to the government purchasing regulations contained in all the trade agreements.... More than half replied with a letter of consent. When the draft text of CAFTA was first made available... these states discovered they were bound by the 2,400-page agreement.... A third have since rescinded their support of CAFTA....

     "These agreements take away state legislative authority over regulating utilities, controlling land use, and the granting of taxpayer-funded contracts.... Some state agencies were paying out taxpayers' money to corporations that outsource their labor, particularly programmers, engineers and call-center workers.'...

     "It's not as though we weren't warned.... Last fall, a World Trade Organization tribunal outlawed Utah's ban on gambling, opening the door to millions of dollars in penalties against all states with anti-gambling regulations. Antigua and Barbuda had charged that Utah's ban on gambling violates America's obligation not to discriminate against foreigners providing 'recreational services.' ...

     "The real purpose of CAFTA is to allow multinational corporations to exploit the abundance of cheap labor and the scarcity of taxes and safety regulations in CAFTA countries."

Indians say call-centre allegations overblown: "Indian politicians and software executives have accused Britain of waging a low-intensity trade war by exaggerating the threat of security breaches in the country's fast-growing call-centre industry. The... industry... is reeling from allegations that an IT employee in Delhi sold confidential data involving 1,000 UK banking customers. The scandal... followed the recent theft of $350,000 from Citibank account holders by call-centre workers in Pune...."

U.S.-U.N. relations (Washington Times): "...President Bush clearly sees the purpose of the United States and its global mission through the United Nations. ... Our notion of 'united,' which has an enduring origin in the mind of the Creator, expanded into the United Nations to underscore the American principles of life, liberty and oneness — as pronounced in E pluribus unum, 'out of many, one.'"

     No! This notion of "united" is not from our God. Behind the UN euphemism such as unity, solidarity, peace and justice, lurks a socialist vision of a new economic system which demands total control of human resources everywhere. While it promotes a unifying, non-offensive spirituality, it rules out Biblical Christianity and the sovereign Lord who gave us His Word. Churches urge poverty focus [registration required]: "Launching a report called Ending Hunger, Cardinal Edward Cassidy said Australians needed to be more aware of global poverty and of their duty to respond. Father Bruce Duncan... was blunter still. 'The UN Millennium Development Goals have barely registered in public opinion in Australia,' he said. The eight objectives - endorsed in 2000 by every UN member including Australia - aimed to tackle world poverty and deficiencies in health, education and environment by 2015. ...

    "The goals inform the Make Poverty History campaign, which is getting enormous attention in Britain, Europe and the United States, partly due to support from the likes of Bono, Geldof and actor Brad Pitt.." Don't conform to the ways of the world

US and Britain strike deal on African debt: "The United States and Britain have struck a deal on erasing billions of dollars the world's poorest nations owe to international lenders, the New York Times reported before a G8 finance ministers' meeting on Friday. ...The plan would free 18 countries, most of which are in Africa, from repaying an estimated $16.7 billion (9.17 billion pounds) they owed international lenders, the newspaper said in a report on its Web site. ...Blair has demanded that poor countries' debts be cancelled and their aid doubled. He and Bush agreed this week help on debt should be given only to countries ready to tackle corruption." Human Nature

Bill Clinton Takes Spot On Global Stage: "In 200, in the opening months of his ex-presidency, Bill Clinton confided to an aide that he had decided on his dream job for the next chapter of his life: secretary general of the United Nations. ...Already, however, he has succeeded to a surprising degree in fashioning his ex-presidency to make himself a dominant player on the world stage. ...

    "The extent to which the 42nd president has preserved influence even after leaving the White House will be far more obvious in September. That is when a large delegation of world leaders, U.S. politicians, business leaders and celebrities of various stripes will arrive in New York for the first Clinton Global Initiative." See The U.N. Someone is planning your future: "...both counties - as is the county where you live - are targets for transformation into 'sustainable communities,' as defined in Agenda 21. Neither Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, nor Lincoln County Planning Technician Curt Temple will admit that their efforts to transform their communities have anything to do with Agenda 21. They probably don’t even know that it does....

     "The agencies of government set out to implement the recommendations of Agenda 21 by rule, and by economic 'incentives and disincentives.' This means, simply, that grants are available to states and communities that do what the feds want, and penalties and fund withdrawal await those communities that resist.

     "Throughout the 1990s, communities everywhere began to create 'visioning councils,' with special grants from the feds. These visioning councils set out to transform local communities, and protect them from environmental and social disaster, by adopting 'smart growth' policies - directly out of Agenda 21." Another Step Toward World Government: "'The United States bowed Wednesday to broad opposition on the Security Council and announced it was dropping its effort to gain immunity for its troops from prosecution by the International Criminal Court.' ...It is a victory for the New World Order, and internationalists see it as such. ...'The rule of law has been reinforced: that international law applies equally to all countries,' said William Pace, head of the Coalition for an International Criminal Court.' What is wrong with Pace's contention?....

      "The U.N., a U.S. creation, is now claiming the right to determine when, where and whether the United States may go to war. Secretary General Kofi Annan, a U.N. bureaucrat from a failed state, Ghana, is telling us that U.S. soldiers must be subject to prosecution by a U.N. war-crimes tribunal with jurisdiction we have never accepted." Global tax almost a reality: "At the spring meeting of the IMF/World Bank in Washington, D. C. it was announced that a number of countries will be used to test a $1 tax on airline tickets. This global tax idea has been around for the last twenty years and is now back as a tax that would be relatively easy to put in place. Furthermore, an 'International Financing Facility' for immunization will also be set up on a test basis. How could we be this far?" The National Democrats: "National Socialism and Fascism offered nothing but socialism with a nationalist spin....For example, the following elements of Karl Marx's 10-point Communist program were adopted, more or less, by the National Socialists.... What Stalin called 'socialism in one country' is essentially the same concept that Hitler dubbed National Socialism....

    "Today, when one surveys the American political landscape, one sees much the same uniformity of opinion that existed in early 20th-century Europe. There are few – very few – who question the superiority of the State's demands over the individual's rights. And despite clear majorities opposed to unlimited immigration, open borders, abortion on demand and political integration with Mexico and Canada, the Republican and Democratic parties are either pushing remorselessly ahead or maintaining the unpopular status quo." U.N. reform: The road to global governance: "Kofi Annan's long-awaited reform report, 'In Larger Freedom: Towards Development, Security and Human Rights for All,' is a laundry list of changes designed to strengthen the United Nations' grasp on global governance.....

     "The U.N.'s non-binding Millennium Declaration captured the goals of the Commission on Global Governance and expressed them in language acceptable to more than 150 heads of state at the Millennium Summit in 2000. Now comes the official request by Kofi Annan to incorporate many of those recommendations into structural changes that will be legally binding on member nations." Why Do We Fund UNESCO? "At the end of 2002 President Bush announced that the United States would rejoin UNESCO, an educational agency of the United Nations. One year later the First Lady was dispatched to Paris for a ceremony marking the end of our 20-year absence from UNESCO, where she assured the world that the US would be a 'full, active and enthusiastic participant' in the organization. Rejoining UNESCO, of course, means paying for it. Our new commitment to UNESCO costs $60 million annually for starters, fully one-quarter of the agency’s budget." UN video game makes hunger point: "A video game which aims to teach children about global hunger has been released by the United Nations. Food Force is the brainchild of the World Food Programme (WFP).... The UN body seeks to capitalise on the popularity of video games to educate youngsters....

Agenda 21 - What is a Soviet? "People know that a soviet system of government is a dismal failure. When police raided his home, the man was allegedly about to rape a 12-year-old girl sent to him in a law enforcement sting operation. ...

      "U.N. officials are worried that the scandal, which already has netted 150 allegations of sex crimes by U.N. staffers, will explode if the pornographic videos and photos, now on sale in Congo, becoming public ...The new charges of rape and pedophilia by U.N. troops and workers in Congo are not the first scandal involving U.N. workers and troops in Africa."

Politicizing health and harming patients: "...like most United Nations agencies, the [World Health Organization] WHO's activities have long been captive to a highly political agenda. 'Out of 100,000 total deaths, 75,000 were caused by accidents.' The remainder, most in poorer countries such as Russia and Turkey, largely resulted from problems like malaria, poor sanitation and dirty water. But the facts didn't stop the WHO....

     "Nevertheless, the WHO is advancing its so-called Children's Environment and Health Action Plan for Europe which proposes more regulations over technology, such as fossil fuels, pesticides, and plastics. The result would make us all poorer, yet wealthier societies are better able to prevent and treat illness. For instance, the pesticide DDT is one of the most effective means to kill mosquitoes, which spread malaria.... The WHO has gone badly astray. What do the CIA, the Pentagon and the UN have in common? Proclamation 7837 of October 24, 2004: United Nations Day, 2004 - By the President [Bush] of the United States of America: "On United Nations Day, we commemorate the founding of the United Nations in 1945 and recognize its many contributions to advancing peace and human rights around the world. Our Declaration of Independence and the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaim the equal value and dignity of every human life. That dignity is honored by the rule of law, limits on the power of the state, respect for women, protection of private property, free speech, equal justice, and religious tolerance."

US missile defense, nuclear technologies transferred to Russia, China: "In May 2002 GW Bush unwisely signed an agreement with Putin of Russia to illegally share US ballistic missile defense research and development with Russia including access to US command and control and testing information for theater and strategic ballistic missile defenses of the US....

     "Congress (Congressman Tierney and others) has been denied test data on missile defense that Bush instead was willing to give to Russia....

     "I was offered a position at Kirtland AFB near Los Alamos related to the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) for research and development (R&D) of ballistic missile defense technologies. During my interview for the position I was told the following: 1. I would be expected to work with Russian scientists in Russian and US facilities.... 2. Work with the Russians was necessary to create the conditions for establishing 'global nuclear disarmament and world government.'"

      Like our "open" southern border, this travesty raises questions about the whole purpose of Homeland Security. The message seems to be: use the terrorism crisis to implement a system of control and surveillance for Americans, but don't slow the progress toward a socialist world government.

World commemorates end of slavery: "The UN's cultural organisation, Unesco, set 23 August as International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.... The UN General Assembly has also proclaimed 2004 as International Year to Commemorate the Struggle against Slavery and its Abolition....

     "The Anti-Slavery International group - which is working with Unesco to raise awareness in schools globally of the transatlantic slave trade - has described human trafficking as the fastest growing from of modern-day slavery.
     "The group says the majority of trafficked people are women and girls, and experts believe that most of them are sent from Africa and Eastern Europe for the sex trade in Western Europe. ... Human trafficking remained a problem in every African country...."

"US: An estimated 20,000 people are trafficked into the US annually - many are forced into prostitution.

     "Mauritania: Despite its abolition in 1981, chattel slavery is still strong - up to 1m people are allegedly held as 'inheritable property'.

     "Sudan: Campaigners say northern militias continue to take women and children in slave raids in the south.

   The 19th century efforts by British and American Christians to end the worldwide slave-trade were not mentioned.

U.S. to Give Border Patrol Agents the Power to Deport Illegal Aliens (registration required): "Citing concerns about terrorists crossing the nation's borders, the Department of Homeland Security said on Tuesday that it planned to give border patrol agents sweeping new powers to deport illegal aliens from the frontiers with Mexico and Canada...."

Hmong journey (registration required): "Teng Yang and his family live on the other side of the earth from the home they will soon make in California. But in many ways, they inhabit another universe. A 13-year-old bride, a man with two wives -- these are accepted social arrangements in the dusty squatters' colony where they have spent the past 11 years....

     "Teng and his family -- a Hmong clan of 27 people from the jungles of Laos -- are moving to Fresno, a middle-class, Central Valley town whose social mores will be as baffling to them as the drive-through line at McDonald's. Over the next several months, 15,000 other Laotian Hmong who live at this makeshift refugee camp will follow them ...

     "Both are shamans who conduct rituals to heal the sick and bring good fortune. These involve slaughtering a pig and two chickens, offerings intended to lure back wayward spirits that, by their absence, have thrown the lives of Hmong out of balance.       Many of the Hmong people are Christians who have worshipped God in secret. May they find refuge and fellowship in America. And may God show us how to reach out to both our Hmong family in Christ and to the animist immigrants who need Christ. It's interesting to see how the mission field is moving into our midst!

Americans to pay millions for UN's standing army: "Scarcely did the Group of Eight announce its decision to create a global peacekeeping force but Congress was already in full swing to fulfill its end of this U.N. agenda. Introduced by Senate Foreign Relations Chair Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) on June 9 was S. 2514, The Global Peacekeeping Operations Initiative Act, allowing for 'the transfer of funds for foreign countries to participate in international peacekeeping or peace enforcement operations.' ...It would be more honest if the G-8 just announced its intent to create a standing global military...." When is Assessment REALLY Assessment? How can the state measure its human capital -- our children? Health organization targets obesity (registration required): "The world's health ministers tentatively agreed Friday to an unprecedented plan to fight a growing epidemic of diseases driven by bad diet and lack of exercise. The plan, which is expected to be formally approved today by the governing body of the World Health Organization, is a guidebook for countries on designing policies to make people eat better and exercise more." Belgium to offer voting rights to non-EU citizens: "To obtain the voting rights, non-EU citizens must have resided in Belgium for five years.... In other parts of Europe, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland and the Netherlands offer similar rights to newcomers."

EU chief calls for religious co-existence: "The European Union (EU) Friday called for mutual respect and tolerance among Muslims, Christians and Jews and stressed that Europe is not anti-Semitic. Global volatility facilitates global financial integration: "Dr. Carroll Quigley, Bill Clinton's mentor at Georgetown University, wrote about the purpose of central banks in his book Tragedy and Hope, '[T]he powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. Kofi Annan says 'laws of jungle' threaten world order: "In just a few short years, the prevailing atmosphere has shifted from belief in the near-inevitability of globalisation to deep uncertainty about the very survival of our tenuous global order."

The price of globalization: "The argument is that capital, technology, ideas and jobs now all enjoy unprecedented mobility. It's workers that lack mobility. Nearly all the work performed in modern industry can be outsourced globally.

    "Actually, this is free trade. It is free trade as theoretically envisaged by the 18th century economist David Ricardo...

    "The iron law of wages is also simple and logical. It says that wages will tend to stabilize at or about subsistence level. That seemed inevitable to Ricardo, since while workers are necessary, and so have to be kept alive, they have no hope of any better treatment since they are infinitely available, replaceable, and generally interchangeable....

    "The iron law of wages would seem to function only if the supply of labor is infinite and totally mobile. Unfortunately that day, for practical purposes, has now arrived, thanks to globalization....

    "Free trade doctrine is hostile to unions, social legislation, and legal restriction on industry's labor practices, all of which deprive poor countries of their comparative advantage, which is poverty."

Pope Wants New International Order to Keep Peace: "The world needs a 'new international order' to solve its conflicts and ensure peace, Pope John Paul said in his New Year's Day address.... 'More than ever we need a new international order which draws on the experience and results of the United Nations.... An order which is capable of finding adequate solutions to today's problems, based on the dignity of human beings, on integrating all society, on solidarity....'" Solidarity Versus Christianity

Global Marshall Plan: Dr. Ervin Laszlo, founder of the influential Club of Budapest, said, "The processes we have initiated within our lifetime and the lifetime of our parents and grandparents cannot continue in the lifetime of our children and grandchildren. Whatever we do either creates the framework for reaching a peaceful and cooperative global society and thus continuing the grand adventure of life, spirit and consciousness on Earth, or sets the stage for the termination of humanity's tenure on this planet. If we maintain obsolete values and beliefs, a fragmented consciousness and a self-centered spirit, we will also maintain outdated goals and behaviors. Such behaviors by a large number of people would block the entire process of evolution toward a peaceful and cooperative global society."
