"...nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places." Matthew 24:7

"... in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

"...all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned..." 2 Timothy 3:1-14

Iraq's not-so-good neighbor: "Holocaust denial and calls for Israel's destruction are commonplace in the Middle East. They can be seen every day on Hezbollah TV, in Syrian media, in Egyptian editorials appearing in semiofficial newspapers. But none of these aspiring mass murderers are on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons that could do in one afternoon what it took Hitler six years to do -- destroy an entire Jewish civilization and extinguish 6 million souls.

"Everyone knows where Iran's nuclear weapons will be aimed.... And everyone knows that if the button is ever pushed, it will be the end of Israel. But it gets worse.... Like Judaism and Christianity, Shiite Islam has its own version of the messianic return -- the reappearance of the Twelfth Imam." See Four Faces of Islam

President alludes to Christ at National Christmas tree lighting: "Flanked by the first lady, as well as members of Congress and the Cabinet, Bush told the public, 'The lighting of the National Christmas tree is one of the great traditions in our nation's capital. Each year, we gather here to celebrate the season of hope and joy – and to remember the story of one humble life that lifted the sights of humanity. Santa, thanks for coming. Glad you made it.'" God's Way versus Our ways

Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice, popular author of occult novels: [Reviewed by George Barna] "...as thrilled as I was to learn of Ms. Rice’s reconnection with Christ... I opened this book with minimal expectations. I need not have worried.... Ms. Rice did not merely conduct exhaustive research on Jesus’ early life. She created a moving and credible portrait of the young Lord and His family.... It is a simple but powerful tale of the emergence of the Savior as He probes His own humanity and divinity....

"...there are captivating scenes such as the riot outside the walls of the Temple in Jerusalem. Other episodes provide riveting insight, such as the family influence on life, Jesus’ exercise and discovery of His powers.... Some scholars and religious leaders will probably demonize this book as 'fabricated history' or 'bad doctrine.'”

It is "bad doctrine" to present a mythical view of Jesus that goes far beyond His revealed Word. It's believable since it stirs emotions and guides the imagination, which makes it all the more deceptive. Where did she do her research? In the Gnostic Gospels? See the next link -- and remember that the His first miracle documented in the Bible happened in Cana (John 2:1-11).

Signs of the times. Christ the Lord, for you: "It's told first person by the seven-year old Jesus, whom we first meet in Egypt with his family. Most of the book follows them back to Nazareth, describing the horrors of Roman persecution they encounter along the way. Alongside all of this is Jesus' slowly evolving sense of who he is.... The issue is basically 'power.'

"The novel opens with the account from the infancy gospel of St. Thomas, of Jesus killing a little boy and bringing him back to life. At other points in the novel, Jesus prays for snow, and it snows, etc. There are flashes he describes of being surrounded by angels, by power, of seeing through the veil of reality to greater reality and so on...."

Means and Opportunity: "While the Civil Rights Movement was very 'in your face,' this movement is known as the quiet transformation of America, a.k.a., the quiet revolution. Whether quiet or 'in your face,' it is still Marxism in all its glory (and its eventual outcome: tyranny). ... Christianity can tolerate dissention, Marxism can not and will not.

"Marxism, by its very construct, demands complete subjugation (the infamous 'all' we hear repeatedly) of the body politic to the world view (religion) on which Marxism is based: humanism, the idea that 'no deity will save us' we must save ourselves (Humanist Manifesto, 1973). This world view is also the basis of humanism's sidekick: New Age God is man and man is god. ...

"When Nikita Khrushchev stated that America would fall without a shot being fired, most Americans laughed at the stupidity of this man." See Conforming Humanity to Socialist Solidarity

October 2005

Teaching children about brave new families: "...there are 30 to 40 couples waiting for each healthy newborn. No wonder mothers-to-be are being offered college scholarships to give away their baby. Despite these facts, many people think that the supply of babies is much higher than the demand. My former co-worker was under the impression that she would be helping the world more by adopting an infant than by having her own."

Quake kids sold to sex trade: "Six-year-old Aisha loves the orange blouse and jeans given to her by the kind woman who rescued her from the chaos of the Kashmir earthquake. She snuggles up to the woman, trying to forget the devastation of her village home and the deaths of her parents 16 days ago. What Aisha does not know is that the woman, Kausar, is a prostitute who has bought her from relatives for 50,000 rupees ($1500) and plans to put her to work in the sex trade as soon as she reaches puberty." See Moral corruption

Bratty, boorish behavior is getting young pupils expelled: "Networks have hit a gold mine with shows like Super Nanny and Nanny 911, in which hideously ill-behaved tots — and their witless parents — are eventually brought to heel. Teachers who have these tiny terrors in class aren't finding the behavior entertaining at all.... Unclear on what's causing the swearing, biting, scratching, kicking and throwing of objects — and unable to physically restrain or discipline the unruly — instructors are ousting kids before they get to kindergarten....

"'I think kids are definitely crueler now than they used to be. There's stronger language and 'I hate you' a lot earlier than I remember.'

"Why are these children who can barely tie their shoes nonetheless applying their feet — and their fists, and their teeth and the occasional chair — to other children and teachers?" See Signs of the times and the 4th and 5th lines of this chart: Total transformation

September 2005

Turning Point Ministries Pulls Radio Program from Network: "Dr. Jeremiah personally notified VCY America Radio that he is pulling his program from the 16-station network immediately. ... There had been hope that the warnings issued to Dr. Jeremiah by the Christian Research Service, Eastern Regional Watch and Lighthouse Trails Research regarding the New Age endorsements and affiliations of Ken Blanchard would be heeded, but the hopes were clearly in vain. ...

"We need to pray for all national Christian radio ministries.... I have witnessed the downward spiral of so many once faithful programs....The Bible, they say, isn't enough today. It has to be jazzed up, spiced up, flavored, re-interpreted, re-worded, added to, subtracted from and ultimately denied in order to appeal to this sophisticated generation of postmodern kids."

Americans drowning in personal, national debt: "That 'I want it now' mentality is apparent in Americans insatiable appetite for stuff - clothes, cars, cell phones, computers. Most of that stuff is imported from other countries, which contributes to the national trade deficit....

"The government’s budget surplus of $236 billion in 2000 evaporated into a $412 billion deficit in 2004. While the deficit is projected to go down to $331 billion in 2005, that’s still a mind-boggling number.... Other nations actually purchase that U.S. debt in the form of treasury bonds and notes. If Japan and China, the two biggest holders of U.S. debt, stopped buying U.S. securities or even started dumping them, that could send the dollar plummeting." See The Power of Suggestion

Dad's Parental Rights Fight Polarizes Lexington: "David Parker and his wife Tonia had asked for parental notification and the ability to 'opt-out' when transgender and same-sex issues are broached to their [6-year-old] son by authority figures at Estabrook School in Lexington. But... when Parker vowed not to leave Estabrook's premises until his request was granted, school officials had him arrested for trespassing. In addition to the criminal charge he is now facing, the concerned father is also fighting a decision by the state and the town of Lexington to bar him from all school property. ...

"Even Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has expressed support for the beleaguered parent. In a televised statement, Romney pointed out that schools under the state's parental-notification law are required to inform parents of 'matters relating to human sexuality that may be taught in the classroom and to allow that child to be out of the classroom....'"

But the new education establishment has little tolerance for those who would "opt out" of its social inclusion program. Biblical values are increasingly labeled as extremist and intolerant. Read more about this case in No Freedom without Compliance

'Learn Not the Way of the Heathen': "In 1897 John Dewey wrote that the teacher is always 'the true prophet of the true God, and the usherer in of the true kingdom of God.' But what 'God' ... is Dewey talking about?... His idea of God is the union of the 'ideal' and the action or experience that supports the realization of that ideal....

"In A Common Faith, Dewey writes: '...It is this active relation between ideal and actual to which I would give the name 'God.' His god being now the creation of man’s own experience as he works toward realizing his own ideals, Dewey destroys any foundation for the existence of an absolute truth." See Chronology of the NEA

Psychology's Misguided Ideas: "...Hundreds of studies have failed to show that self-esteem training produces lasting positive results. ...merely feeling good about yourself doesn’t necessarily make you more effective. What’s more, recent studies suggest that self-esteem training may be harmful—that it leads many students to overestimate their abilities....

"Scientific American reports that teenagers 'with high self-esteem are less inhibited, more willing to disregard risks and more prone to engage in sex'...

"...numerous Christians still believe in promoting and fostering self-esteem, even though it is an unbiblical goal. The Bible clearly says that we are not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought (Romans 12:3).... In spite of all the verbal juggling to justify self-esteem, it still boils down to pride." See Self-esteem and Pride

The Gay Agenda vs. Family Values: "Marriage between one man and one woman, and the nuclear family have forever been cornerstones of civilized society....They desperately cling to, and repeatedly cite various 'studies' which seem to support the 'born that way' theory. They entirely disregard the fact that to date, there has been no credible, empirical evidence to support the theory....

"...perhaps the most troubling aspect of the homosexual lifestyle in general, is its destructive nature.... All of these things considered, and given that the cost to treat an AIDS patient averages nearly $350,000, the homosexual lifestyle shares responsibility... for... skyrocketing health care costs." 1 Cor 6:9-11

Hospital infections killed 1,800 in Pa. last year: "Pennsylvania hospitals say more than 11,600 patients last year developed potentially deadly infections while admitted, but a state agency on Tuesday warned the true number could be much higher because hospitals are likely underreporting." Signs

Returning to earth worship, Part 1: "Though few Christians are aware of it, the cry to 'save the earth,' 'be sustainable' and 'live in harmony with nature' is rooted in the ancient pantheistic religions that dominated the Egyptian, Babylonian, Grecian and Roman Empires. Former Vice President Gore even promotes them in his book Earth in the Balance, '...the prevailing ideology of belief in prehistoric Europe and much of the world was based on the worship of a single earth goddess, who was assumed to be the fount of all life and who radiated harmony among all living things...." See The Allure of the Goddess & Welcoming the Goddess

Anti-Christian Tendencies in UN and EU:  "The authors accuse the European institutions of largely ignoring the persecution of Christians. While the human rights commission of the European Parliament, for instance, has denounced the suppression of the religious Falun Gong movement and of Buddhists in China, it kept silent about the oppression of Christians. The EU was critical of Islamic countries only with regard to the discrimination of women but not of Christian minorities.

"A report issued in 2003 by the EU human rights commission had described religion as one of the worst enemies of human rights and as a danger for world peace." Signs

Internationalizing U.S. roads: "We’re not just talking about isolated instances of privately-built toll roads with foreign management, as we’ve seen in Southern California. We’re talking about networks of toll roads that may be built by foreign builders, managed by foreign operators, function primarily to accommodate foreign goods, and connect U.S. roads to similar networks in Canada, Mexico and, later, Central and South America." See The Merging of the Americas in a New Global Order

Rare sexually transmitted disease surfaces in Canada: "A potentially fatal sexually transmitted disease that rarely appears in industrialized countries has popped up in Canada, raising fears of an outbreak. So far, 22 cases of lymphogranuloma venereum have been reported ....The infection is endemic in parts of Africa, Asia, South America and the Caribbean. ... Cases among men who have sex with men popped up in the Netherlands in 2003, followed by cases in Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden, Britain and the United States." Sensuality

Australia running dry in worst drought for century: "A vast swathe of the country, from South Australia to Queensland, is already bone dry after four consecutive years of low rainfall. ... 'It's bloody tough and it's wearing people down,' said Tony Morrison, who farms 7,000 merino sheep...." Signs

Christian singer returning to pop: "To hear clearly the words he felt God wanted to put in his heart, [Michael W.] Smith said he had to get away from it all. He retreated to George Lucas’ secluded Skywalker Ranch in Nicasio, Calif. 'Sometimes you just have to leave town to keep focus,' said Smith, a big 'Star Wars' fan. 'And I wanted to go to Skywalker’s house.'" Three kinds of temptation

Public prayer? Where's the outrage!: "We pray to give thanks for our freedom, the President said. 'Freedom is our birthright because the Creator wrote it into our common human nature. No government can ever take a gift from God away.' ... He reminded us that in our nation's supreme founding document, the Declaration of Independence, '...our Founders ... declared it a self-evident truth that our right to liberty comes from God.'"

Yes, our freedom does come from God, but it is not unconditional. When a nation turns from God and twists His Truth, He withdraws His blessings and leaves us at the mercy of enemies who destroy both rights and freedom." Deut 8:10-20

Scourge of '30s resurges -- Whooping cough cases rise: "...Rita Giles' son couldn't stop coughing. After three weeks... he finally was diagnosed with whooping cough, known by the scientific name pertussis. By that time, the 14-year-old already had exposed dozens of classmates....

"A major cause of illness and death among infants and young children in this country before vaccines were introduced in the 1940s, the bacterial affliction dropped to a record low of 1,010 cases in 1976. But nationwide, figures have soared in the past two decades."

Hospital to the world welcomes illegals & contageous diseases: "Many illegals who skulk across our borders have tuberculosis (TB). That disease had disappeared from America thanks to excellent hygiene and powerful modern drugs such as Isoniazid and Rifampin. TB’s swift, deadly return now is lethal for about 60% of those infected. The culprit is the new Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB).... The mycobacterium tuberculosis is resistant to at least two major TB drugs. Ordinary TB usually is cured in six months with four drugs (that cost about $2000). MDR-TB takes 24 months with many expensive drugs with toxic side effects (that cost around $250,000)....

"Chagas Disease has no known cure.... Suddenly, in the past three years America has more than 7,000 cases of leprosy. ... Malaria was obliterated but now is re-emerging in Texas and other states. ... Hepatitis A, B, and C are resurging....

Girl Power as Boy Bashing: Evaluating the Latest Twist In the War of the Sexes: "Seventeen-year-old Bryan Blase sees girls at school wearing T-shirts that announce: 'Boys are stupid. Throw rocks at them!' Bryan, who lives in suburban Detroit, isn't offended.... 'We are stupid,' he says. 'Girls should throw rocks at us.' ...

" 'This is not humor. This is sarcasm as a weapon,' says Ted Braude, a psychologist in Royal Oak, Mich., who works with boys. ... My 15-year-old daughter notices that most teen magazines for girls depict boys as jerks. 'It's always, 'He did this to me. He did that to me.' Rarely do I read a story where a boy does something nice,' she says. ...

"Madeline Gobbo, 14, of Hood River, Ore., sees that advertisers woo girls through boy-bashing. She's amused by ads for Skechers sneakers, which show kicking or whip-wielding females and cowering males. 'Girls used to try to be equal to boys,' says Madeline. 'Now they're trying to be better. The media is picking up on that.'" See Mine is the Power and Isaiah 3:5-12

Domestic violence series substitutes emotions for facts: "DOJ statistics show that roughly 1,300 women are murdered by intimates each year. Yet domestic homicide is hardly a one-way street....

"...evidence suggests that there are actually as many wives and girlfriends who murder their male partners as vice versa. ... For one, women generally use less detectable methods to murder intimates than men do, including poisonings, which are often mistakenly recorded as 'heart attacks' or 'accidents.' Also, women are much more likely than men to convince their extramarital intimates to do the killing, or to use contract killers. ...

"...criminologist Coramae Richey Mann found that 60% of female murders of male intimates were preplanned, and 70% of the killings were done while the victim was asleep, bound, helpless or inebriated." See A Twist of Faith, Chapter 8

Outpouring for Pope masks Europe's spiritual crisis: "They stood in a line that stretched at least a mile, sometimes 30 abreast.... The funeral of this modern pope has become the greatest Christian pilgrimage of all time. Accordingly, images out of Rome this week give the impression of a still-vibrant European Christianity.

"...while believers have not disappeared (particularly in the newly free countries of Eastern Europe), they have become a distinct minority in a continent that is decidedly post-Christian." See Re-inventing the World

Liberal attitudes (Thomas Sowell): "Liberals may think of themselves as people who believe in certain principles but, if you observe their actual behavior, you are likely to discover that most liberals have a certain set of attitudes, rather than principles. Liberals may denounce 'greed,' for example, but in practice it all depends on whose greed."

The next link shows reasons why such subjective attitudes are replacing objective knowledge.

The Pied Pipers of Purpose: "David Hornbeck was possibly one of the most controversial figures in grassroots America during the late 1980s and early 1990s. As an education reform consultant he traveled to approximately 30 states marketing a plan to 'transform' education. In these nearly identical state plans Hornbeck referred to children as 'human capital.' His recommendations called for sweeping changes in the education of children, including databanking, standards, results ('outcomes'), and assessments....

"Hornbeck re-defined education away from traditional academic subjects (that require rational thinking) towards affective education – attitudes, opinions, beliefs and values.... Education reform plans reveal that 'human capital' is more heavily oriented towards exhibiting the proper attitudinal attributes and work skills than esteeming a person’s actual cognitive knowledge. Hornbeck also envisioned the local school as the 'hub' of a community, offering day care, social services, medical care, food stamps, welfare, mental health, recreation, job training, parent training – a 'one-stop-shop' to meet all human needs from cradle to grave."

Now large churches are beginning to provide the same kind of "one-stop-shop" training and service. See Social Change and Communitarian Systems

March 2005

'Israel' erased from Canadian passports: "Under a new passport policy in Canada, 'Israel' cannot be specified as the country of birth for Canadian citizens born in Jerusalem.... A 2004 ruling by the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. mirrors the Canadian policy. The court ruled American consular offices in Israel need not register the birthplace of an American citizen born in Jerusalem as 'Jerusalem, Israel,' but merely as 'Jerusalem.'''

Paying by Fingerprint at the Supermarket: "Customers of a German supermarket chain will soon be able to pay for their shopping by placing their finger on a scanner at the check-out, saving the time spent scrabbling for coins or cards." See No Place to Hide?

B.C. not P.C. for students: "Educators' move to change 'Before Christ' to 'Before Common Era' sparking outrage.... In what's perceived as a case of political correctness trumping history and everyday usage, students in Australia are now seeing the calendar term B.C. – which stands for 'Before Christ' – being replaced with BCE, meaning 'Before Common Era.'...

February 2005

Scientists face challenge assessing bird flu risks: "The 'very frightening' outbreak of virulent bird flu in Asia could lead to the most devastating human pandemic in history - or it could continue just to produce isolated deaths...."

Colonias, disease and danger: "As more illegal aliens sneak past our borders without being screened for diseases, they disperse throughout our country carrying a backpack full of Center For Disease Control consequences. Within the past few years, leprosy, tuberculosis, hepatitis, Chagas disease and even malaria have jumped over our borders from Mexico on the backs of an average 10,000 illegal aliens daily, seven days a week.... The tapeworm had previously been eradicated in U.S. pork via animal husbandry techniques.... Since that world is immigrating into America at an unprecedented rate of speed, the parasite is moving along with them....The most sobering aspect of Third World traditions is the lack of handwashing as a normal aspect of personal hygiene."

American minute - February 13: "'Man has forgotten God, that is why this has happened,' was Solzhenitsyn's response when questioned about the decline of modern culture. A Russian author, Solzhenitsyn was imprisoned for eight years by Joseph Stalin. He wrote 'The Gulag Archipelago' for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970, but the Communist government would not allowed him to leave the country to accept it. Finally, under international pressure, the Soviet Union expelled him on this day February 13, 1974.
"While in Washington, D.C., in 1975, Alexander Solzhenitsyn warned:
'I...call upon America to be more careful...because they are trying to weaken you...to disarm your strong and magnificent country in the face of this fearful threat - one that has never been seen before in the history of the world.'"
Deut 8:10-20

Goal is Israel's destruction: "As Israel and the Palestinians agree to a cease-fire setting the stage for peace talks, official Palestinian Authority television continues to communicate the ultimate goal of eliminating the Jewish state. In the official Friday sermon broadcast last week, senior Muslim figure Ibrahim Mudyris explained that the diplomatic process can only achieve a return to the borders Israel had before the 1967 war. The final stage, he said will be the destruction of Israel 'the way Muhammad returned there as a conqueror.' " See Chronology of Conquests in the Name of Allah

NYC Health Officials Find New, Virulent HIV Strain: "New York City doctors have discovered a man with a previously unseen strain of HIV that is resistant to three of the four types of anti-viral drugs tcombat the disease, and progresses from infection to full-blown AIDS in two or three months...."

January 2005

Unbelieving 'born-agains': "Secularists, liberals, and Muslims do not need to fear conservative Christians, says Dave Shiflett in The Wall Street Journal.... He cites poll data from Christian researcher George Barna that 26 percent of born-agains believe all religions are essentially the same and that 50 percent believe that a life of good works will enable a person to get to heaven.... More than one in three (35 percent) born-again Christians do not believe that Jesus rose physically from the dead....

"It is all right to be religious, according to the dictates of postmodernism, as long as your faith exist in your head. If you start claiming that... what you believe is objectively real and valid for everybody, then you are an intolerant menace to society....

"Preachers sometimes exhort people to 'invite Jesus into your heart' without proclaiming who Jesus is and what He has done for sinners. This is evangelism that forgets to preach the gospel. The result will be 'non-evangelical born-agains.'" See Widening the gate to the Kingdom

Omaha [man] offers forehead as Billboard: "With all the advertising around us, it's not always easy coming up with a message consumers will notice. One Omaha man wants to use his head to get the word out.... Twenty-year-old Andrew Fischer is leasing his forehead on e-Bay. 'I'm basically going to be a billboard for 30 days.'"

December 2004

People-tracking closer to reality - Deal forged to equip VeriChip with global positioning satellite: "Applied Digital has created and successfully field-tested a prototype of an implant for humans with GPS, or global positioning satellite, technology. ... Once inserted into a human, it can be tracked by GPS technology and the information relayed wirelessly to the Internet, where an individual's location, movements and vital signs can be stored in a database for future reference." Revelation 13

Erasing religion: "'It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God... to be grateful for his benefits and humbly to implore his protection.' — Thanksgiving Day proclamation by George Washington.

"Students attending public school in Mary land will never see the above quote. The religious component of the first thanksgiving meal is 'not allowed' to be mentioned."

The (forgotten) Ten Commandments (2001): "According to a new British poll, the country is quickly forgetting the Ten Commandments.... Less than half of the population remembered the admonitions not to steal, murder or commit adultery, but it appears that commandments such as 'don't take the Lord's name in vain' are fast becoming a distant memory. Only 9 percent of those polled recalled the commandment not to lie. Worst remembered of all the commandments was 'keep the Sabbath day holy,' which was correctly identified by only 4 percent of those polled." Chart: Paradigm Shift: Total transformation

Vatican fears Christianity under attack by new 'inquisition': "...of all the ills afflicting the modern world, none is causing deeper concern than the rising tide of what Vatican officials call 'militant secularism' washing over Europe.... For the ailing Pope John Paul II, whose 26-year papacy has been marked by a dramatic expansion of the Vatican’s authority worldwide, Catholicism’s waning influence in Europe is a source of deep dismay." See Ban truth - Reap Tyranny

Woman Charged After Saying She Would Sacrifice Children: "Police were called to St. Mary's Church on Lowell Street by church officials who said Nicole Mancini, 29, and her boyfriend, John Thurber, 35, were trying to force their way into the empty church. 'They said there was a couple there who wanted to sacrifice one of their children.'" See The Fall and Rise of Human Violence

God worse than terrorism? "Robert Reich, the former U.S. labor secretary under President Bill Clinton, believes people who follow God pose a more significant threat to the modern world than terrorists do. 'Terrorism itself is not the greatest danger we face,' writes Reich in a column titled "Bush's God" published in the American Prospect. ... "The true battle will be between modern civilization and anti-modernists; between those who believe in the primacy of the individual and those who believe that human beings owe their allegiance and identity to a higher authority; between those who give priority to life in this world and those who believe that human life is mere preparation for an existence beyond life; between those who believe in science, reason, and logic and those who believe that truth is revealed through Scripture and religious dogma. Terrorism will disrupt and destroy lives. But terrorism itself is not the greatest danger we face." See The Enemy of The People?

Girl allegedly beats 4-Year-Old friend to death: "A 12-year-old girl has been charged in the beating death of a 4-year-old family friend.... 'Our prosecutors are confronted with the raw emotion of these tragedies day after day,' said Margaret T. Burns, a spokeswoman for the state's attorney's office. 'They are weary from the grief that is shared by the families in our community. They wonder 'Are we losing this battle?'...

"'...it does point out that girls are unquestionably becoming more violent,' he said, noting charges against several women and girls earlier this year in the brutal beating of a 12-year-old girl at a birthday party." See A Twist of Faith, Chapter 8 - "Deliver us from evil" and 2 Timothy 3:1-14

Overspending on AIDS killing us: "While about 16,000 Americans died from AIDS in 1992, over twice that many die annually just from flu. A half million succumb yearly to cancer, with the death rate for incurable pancreatic cancer alone about twice that as for AIDS.... It’s obscene that almost a fifth of Americans still consider AIDS our prime health problem when our biggest killer, heart disease, reaps 700,000 Americans annually....

"Jaffe worries that high-risk behavior continues among homosexual men as evidenced by syphilis outbreaks among them; but this is merely an inevitable reaction to the good news. The medicines are now so incredibly effective that while HIV infection was once seen as a death sentence, it’s now viewed as an inconvenience.... Further, with so much money involved and with AIDS the prima donna of federal spending, corruption became inevitable. Embezzlements, junkets and other misspending were documented in the liberal Washington Monthly by, of all people, a co-founder of the AIDS activist group ACT-UP." See The Mainstream Media

GOP questions 'immigrant voters guide': "Hoping to decipher the state's perplexing ballot propositions, a coalition of advocacy groups has published an unprecedented 'immigrant voters guide' for tens of thousands of foreign-born citizens across California. While the coalition claims to be nonpartisan, its guide might create a different impression."

Jews, Israel and America: "'Many Iraqis have so much distrust for U.S. forces we found they've come up with a nickname for our troops,' Scott said. 'They call American soldiers 'The Jews'....
"But such talk is also indicative of a trend in the Arab media, after a century of Arab-Jewish strife, where if you want to brand someone as illegitimate, just call him a 'Jew.' ... Now you find a steadily rising perception across the Arab-Muslim world that the great enemy of Islam is JIA - 'Jews, Israel and America,' all lumped together in a single threat. This wider trend has been fanned by Arab satellite TV stations, which deliberately show split-screen images of Israelis bashing Palestinians and U.S. forces bashing the Iraqi insurgents."

The U.S. mainstream media shows some similar biases -- but against Christian values. See The Mainstream Media

Millions face bleak future as pensions crisis is revealed (UK): Workers will suffer a 30 per cent cut in their retirement income unless urgent action is taken to tackle the pensions crisis.... More than 12 million people over the age of 25 are not saving enough for their retirement."

Social welfare may win votes but destroy diligence and personal responsibility. Today's dumbed-down education emphasizing collective thinking doesn't help. See Chart: Total transformation

Not a simple answer’ for desert’s syphilis problem: "Palm Springs alone has a syphilis rate of 81.8 per 100,000 people in 2003, twice the rate of the nation’s No. 1 city for syphilis, San Francisco. ... The disease, health officials say, is being spread in the desert almost exclusively by gay men, many of whom are also HIV-positive. ...Left unchecked, syphilis can cause blindness, neurological damage, heart disease and death....

"...about 75 percent of the gay men infected with syphilis also have HIV. ... 'They think ‘If I get AIDS, it will be like I have diabetes. All I have to do is take a pill every day.’"

Rampant Cheating Forces College to Change Honor Code: "A university affiliated with the Church of Christ has changed its honor code after an anonymous student survey showed nearly half of its students admitted to cheating." 2 Timothy 3:1-14

The Degradation of Language and Music and Why We Should, Like, Care: "There was a time not long ago when an elaborate command of the English language was considered part of the fabric of American culture. In 1863 orator Edward Everett kept a crowd at Gettysburg hanging onto his every word during his three-hour speech.

"Three hours? Yes, because he was an excellent orator in a time when American society valued excellent orators. Even during the first half of the 20th century, a command of spoken and written English on a level that would confound many of today's college students was required by the time one finished the eighth grade. Besides that, it was the social norm; ain't so anymore....

The young put their faith in mysticism: "Young people have more faith in mysticism than in the Church and the Bible, according to research which suggests a revival of the 'Age of Aquarius'. Nearly two thirds of 18- to 24-year-olds believe in the power of horoscopes, compared to just over a third who swear by the Bible, a survey of 3,000 people has found. ...

"The findings... will refuel concerns among Church leaders about an emerging interest among young people in New Age beliefs and fringe religious movements such as Kabbalah, which has attracted celebrities like the singer Madonna." See Popular Occultism

Teacher In Trouble For Ripping Bible: "An Idaho English teacher is in trouble for ripping up a Bible in class. Burley High's Karen Christenson said she was trying to illustrate a point about censorship, as her sophomore students read Ray Bradbury's novel 'Fahrenheit 451,' which is set in a future society that commands all literature be burned."

Today's belief that people must learn what's right from wrong by the virtual (or imagined) experience of evil has a negative effect; it eventually makes evil seem normal rather than abhorrent. Psalm 101:3

Esoteric Christianity: "...this dynamic individual was now actively trying to persuade me of the validity of his experience and spiritual position. More than that, his ultimate aim was to lead me into a similar experience so that I too could come 'face to face with Jesus' within my own soul.
"'...we don't need the Bible, just put it on the shelf' was something he repeated on many occasions. Why?... Moreover, God was revealing this new soul-reality by doing 'a new thing' through fantastic (mystical) experiences....
"Throughout the course of our time together, my guest continuously referred to fearing God - not that we were to fear God, but just the opposite. The claim was simple: in order to know God fully, man must shed any fear of God, for the fear of the Lord breeds pride, lust, and anger. This fear of God, my guest explained, was the root of pride and sin....
"Be aware of wolves in sheep's clothing, be aware of experienced-based teachings which counter or twist God's Holy Word, be aware of those who proclaim an 'esoteric' version of Christianity - rightfully teaching that Jesus was divine, but adding to it the message of an internalized 'Jesus spirit' and/or self-deification.'"

Outbreak of RFID tagging at medical facilities: "The Jacobi Medical Centre in New York is tagging patients with RFID chips in a pilot project run with Siemens Business Services. The chips are incorporated into the wrist bands issued when a patient is admitted. The idea is that the chips will cut down on patient misidentification, and make accessing medical records faster.... Medical staff will carry RFID readers and tablet style PCs with Wi-Fi access to the medical network.... The patient record is connected to the labs, pharmacy and, perhaps most usefully for hospital administrators, to billing." Revelation 13

Talk about getting religion! "Rub your eyes. Did we just see a Democratic convention brimming with flag-waving patriotism, respect for the military, and references to God and values? ...The Boston convention was a festival of values that the Democratic Party either does not hold or does not want mentioned much in the public arena. ...

"Perhaps the most jarring of the 'values' themes in Boston was the convention’s attempt to identify with religious voters. Come to the Democratic convention and sing 'Amazing Grace.' Many religious people, of course, are Democrats. But the secular elites who control the party have worked long and hard to marginalize religion in America and to banish it from the public square." Jesus actor mistaken for the real deal: "James Caviezel has been swamped with requests to perform miracles by Mexican fans who believe he really is Jesus Christ. The 35-year-old actor, who played Jesus in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, was on a one-week tour of the east Mexican state of Veracruz. According to Mexican newspaper Reforma, dozens of residents from villages throughout the state, one of the poorest in the country, asked Caviezel to heal the sick and perform other miracles as he passed through." Caviezel doesn't claim to be Christ, but his image as Christ deceives many. Luke 21:10 and Mel Gibson's "Passion"

Danish minister in trouble for denying God, afterlife: "The Danish government today upheld the clerical suspension of a Lutheran minister who proclaimed last year that there was no God or afterlife, and he now could be fired or fined for declaring his beliefs in the pulpit.... Boy Scouts still under heavy fire: "One of the most outrageous injustices occurring in our society is the homosexual activists' relentless assault on the Boy Scouts of America, all because the BSA will not conform its standards to accommodate their lifestyle. It's not enough that even the liberal United States Supreme Court ruled in Boy Scouts of America v. Dale that the Constitution guarantees the BSA's right to exclude homosexuals from leadership positions in its organization. Homosexual activists will not take no for an answer. Their brand of tolerance insists that no tolerance be accorded the Scouts." Matthew 24:9

Postmodernism: "Whereas modernism is thought to be the culmination of the Enlightenment's quest for an authoritatively-rational aesthetics, ethics, and knowledge, postmodernism is concerned with how the authority of those would-be-ideals (sometimes called metanarratives) are subverted through fragmentation, consumerism, and deconstruction." 2 Timothy 4:3-4

Iranian official threatens U.S. Suicide: "'We have a strategy drawn up for the destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilization and for the uprooting of the Americans and the English.... We can categorically say that absolutely nothing has been achieved."

CAIR's war on conservative radio: "The Council on American-Islamic Relations won't condemn Muslim fanatics, but it has declared war on outspoken Americans who will.... CAIR, which calls itself 'America's largest Islamic civil liberties group,' has lately focused its wrath on conservative radio talk show hosts.... CAIR fights dirty -- fabricating quotes, taking comments out of context, indulging in the cult of victimology and exploiting a gullibly sympathetic press. By manufacturing an anti-Muslim hate epidemic that doesn't exist, CAIR obfuscates its own suspicious role in fomenting anti-American extremism....

Education Ministry ordered thousands of them to stop using faith-based materials -- or any other 'unofficial' resource -- when teaching their children at home.... Nagle is one of many home-schooling parents lured into the public school system in recent years through an electronic distance-education program. ABC airs biased 'Jesus and Paul' Special: "Monday night ABC-TV aired a three-hour special 'Jesus and Paul—The Word and the Witness.' ...The program presented the 'expert' analysis from liberal theologians and carried an underlying worldview of distrust in Scripture and Jesus' divinity. According to Focus on the Family's Tom Neven, 'Jennings repeatedly refers to 'the Jesus movement' as if it were just another political party or faction. They also pit Paul against Jesus, as if the apostle taught things that contradicted Jesus, and some refer to Paul as 'the founder of Christianity.'" 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

It's the heart versus the Bible: "I recently interviewed a 26-year-old Swedish student about her views on life. I asked her if she believed in God or in any religion. 'No, that's silly,' she replied. 'Then how do you know what is right and wrong?' I asked. 'My heart tells me,' she responded. In a nutshell, that's the major reason for the great divide within America and between America and much of Europe. The majority of people use their heart -- stirred by their eyes -- to determine what is right and wrong. A minority uses their mind and/or the Bible to make that determination." See A Twist of Faith, Chapter 10

The Beginning of Sorrows: "Ten years ago, the whole world was focused on AIDS, the new disease ravaging every continent except, perhaps, Antarctica.... Is Europe the New ‘Dark Continent’? "...there are signs that Europe's Christian era has come to an end.... Less than half of the British public can name any of the four New Testament Gospels. Almost a third of all Dutch no longer know why we have Christmas day. There is a new ‘dark continent’—the land that used to be known as Christian Europe. Today, many of its cathedrals are simply large museum pieces. They are ‘artifacts of an ancient religion, and a dead faith.’....

"'The loss of faith, in Europe, is like an ‘unseen black star’ that still has a tremendous gravitational pull. They don't understand why their culture is failing. They don't understand why divorce rates and suicide rates are so high.... This is the impact of the death of real Christian belief in Europe.' Yet the European media never tires of mocking America's high church attendance as 'something weird'....

And how is it possible to confuse the United States, which liberated Europe from Nazi shackles, with the Nazis themselves? Nor was this an isolated incident. Just last month in neighboring Sweden, there was another 'art exhibit,' this one honoring a woman who murdered 22 people in a Haifa restaurant last fall.

Study Says Old City Most at Risk in Quake (Jerusalem): "The Bible tells of earthquakes splitting open the hills of this holy city with apocalyptic fury, adding to the mayhem of battles and punctuating Jesus' crucifixion. Greeting Big Brother With Open Arms: "For 50 years, Big Brother was an unambiguous symbol of malignant state power, totalitarianism's all-seeing eye. Then Big Brother became a hip reality television show, in which 10 cohabiting strangers submitted to round-the-clock camera monitoring in return for the chance to compete for $500,000..... Christianity versus Psychology: "In the last days 'people will be lovers of themselves' so the Bible warns us in 2 Timothy 3:2. I wonder how many Christian churches realize that they might be helping to fulfill this prophecy. One of the biggest threats to Christ's church today is the religion of psychology.... Freud called religion inherently evil and said it was a form of neurosis. Jung called religion a mental illness and said it was just an imaginary coping mechanism. Both of these men dabbled in mysticism and the occult.

Teens have right to have sex, lawyer argues: "When an Oak Creek woman found her 14-year-old daughter nude in the woman's bed with a 14-year-old boy, the teens didn't strike her as being overly concerned. 'They both freely admitted that their intention was to have sex,' records quote the woman as saying. They 'were confrontational and remorseless.' The teens even 'challenged' the woman to call police. So she did.

"...a lawyer for one of them contends 14-year-olds have a right to privacy that allows them to consent to sex with each other, and has challenged the constitutionality of the law."

Makes sense! Children learn to define right and wrong according to their own limited understanding, their subjective feelings and group consensus. Parents are told to negotiate rather that set firm standard based on God's law. No wonder today's teens oppose traditional moral boundaries. And since "all is good that feels good," they can't grasp the nature of sin or repentance -- or God's gift of redemption.   Jeremiah 6:10

Will fact match fiction as scientists start work on thinking robot? "Scientists have been given the biggest ever grant to build a 'conscious robot'. The work will not only bring the scores of intelligent, self-aware machines that populate science fiction a step closer, it could also provide valuable clues on how human consciousness develops.....

"'Consciousness is perhaps the last remaining mystery in understanding what it is to be human,' said Owen Holland, who will lead the work at Essex University. 'By attempting to build physical systems which can produce a form of artificial consciousness, we hope to learn more about the nature of consciousness.' ...

"Instead of blindly following their programming, conscious robots would be better able to react dynamically to their environment, adjusting their behaviour on any information they could gather."

Who will program the "minds" of these "conscious" robots how to react to their environments? Whose values will they learn? How might they serve their human masters in the planned global society where consensus rules and contrary views are banned? See Huxley's Brave New World and Genesis 11:4-9

UCLA plans to survey students' religious habits: "Researchers plan to ask how many students are 'actively searching and curious about spiritual issues,' how often they attend religious services and which rituals or religious behaviors are most attractive to students. Researchers also want to know what role doubt plays in students' spiritual journeys, and whether school or peer pressure 'get in the way' of spiritual development."

Do you wonder why the tax-supported University of California would "spend $1.9 million" to survey the religious habits" of their students?

"Mr. Grosboll... has prompted many here to ask: must a minister believe in Christ and the resurrection to be a good pastor? Isn't it enough to spread Christian values and help people in need?...      "Lynn Schofield Clark is an assistant research professor at CU and she has spent 15 years researching the psyche of American teens and how modern media has affected them.... 'Years ago I was working with teens at a religious organization and a young man told me he wasn't going to church, because they didn't speak 'his language.' It then became clear to me, that our popular culture has become the language for teens. I found that it's very important for adults to learn about this culture, so they can engage in a dialogue,' explained Clark....

"The author found three separate groups of teen believers in her research; the Resistors who wanted to be anti-establishment and opted for fantasy shows like Buffy, the Mystics who are ambivalent to organized religion and borrowed language and popular culture from shows like 'Touched by an Angel,' and the Intrigued who fall somewhere between organized religion and the supernatural....

"'We're going to be mixing and matching a lot of spiritual beliefs in America, and it might lead to some tension." 2 Timothy 4:3-4

Space aliens? In Solano? The mystic set comes 'round to see crop circles, feel the healing energy: "True believers, visionaries, psychics and people in purple robes lay down Wednesday in the middle of a Solano County wheat field where vortexes were converging and all things were possible. 'I feel like I'm melting right into the earth,' said Lily Kyle. 'It's intense. There's a coalescence, no doubt about it.'" See Aliens, Monsters and Creepy Creatures

Scientists create human ‘she-males’: "Scientists in the United States have created hybrid human 'she-males,' mixing male and female cells in the same embryo, in a move that has outraged fertility experts and anti-abortionists. ... But their work provoked revulsion when they presented it to the annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology...

"Their work also sparked outrage from abortion opponents who described it as run-away science. 'This is gross manipulation of human life,' said Nuala Scarisbrick of the British anti-abortion group Life."

Apart from God's moral standard, there is no limit to the unwise projects people will pursue. Genesis 11:4-9

Couple to have first 'Internet baby': "A married couple from the South-East conceived the child using sperm bought from a website. After paying a fee to browse the site, they were able to check criteria such as race, eye colour, height and weight of prospective donors...." Have babies become a business -- just one more marketed product? What about God's Word and will?

June 2003

UK babies may be genetically screened: "Every child born in the UK could be genetically screened and the data stored to plan their future healthcare under government proposals for a massive expansion of genetic testing. ... 'Increasing understanding of genetics will bring more accurate diagnosis, more personalised prediction of risk, new gene-based drugs and therapies and better targeted prevention and treatment'.... [Abortion? Selective breeding?]

"Josephine Quintavalle of ProLife Alliance said the plans amounted to a blueprint for weeding out physical imperfection. 'We have to be very careful. We don't have enough money to treat all the diseases we know about, so who is going to get it? Inevitably it will be the healthy child.'" See Brave New World

Beyond Cute - Exotic Pets Come Bearing Exotic Germs: "Where some people see a cute and cuddly ball of fur, scientists like Dr. Osterholm see a vector: a ball of disease-causing viruses, bacteria, parasites and who knows what other germs....        "The worldwide trade in so-called exotic pets has done two things that are practically a recipe for spreading exotic diseases. First, the trade has transported animals like giant Gambian rats across oceans and brought them together with species that they would never encounter naturally.... Second, the trade has brought people close to animals — and to diseases — they had little or no contact with before." Matthew 24:7

Jews flooding into Germany: "The turbulent relationship between Jews and Germany is taking yet another stunning turn. Seventy years after Hitler's ascendance to power and 60 years after the Holocaust, more Jews are flooding into Germany than into any other country, Israel included. This makes Germany the one nation with the fastest-growing Jewish community in the world. Ironically, one reason for this state of affairs is the anti-Semitism in their countries of origin."

Israelis Leery on Eve of Latest Peace Summit: "..most Israelis seem to be keenly aware that the struggle Americans view as an Israeli-Palestinian issue is, in fact, much larger—which President Bush acknowledged by visiting Nazi death camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau before the latest 'peace summit.'...

"Skepticism is the norm on the streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Almost no one really believes peace is imminent. They’ve been teased with the promise of a truly normal life too many times before."

Malibu Babs - Snapshots of an eco-hypocrite: "People who live in 10,000-square-foot oceanfront mansions shouldn't throw stones. That hasn't stopped Barbra Streisand from lecturing her fellow Californians about their energy use ('We must make concrete changes in our lifestyles to help solve this energy crisis... try to line dry [clothes]... only run your dishwasher when it is fully loaded . . . ') and lambasting President Bush's environmental policies.... Now, this multiple home-owning, custom-built SUV-riding, California coastline-hogging diva has lobbed a $50 million lawsuit at an eco-activist who posted photos of her massive estate on the Internet. ...

"It's what the photos of Streisand's mansion don't show -- no windmill-powered generators, no electric cars...  no hemp curtains in the windows of her eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, no Scaasi evening gowns hanging outside to dry on clotheslines that should be strung between her precious parasols -- that expose the truth of her eco-hypocrisy best." God kept out of EU constitution: "The long-awaited preamble to the document used the words 'spiritual', 'religious' and 'humanistic' to describe Europe's heritage and references traditions in Europe 'nourished by the Greek and Roman civilizations.'" Mark 8:38

Even feeding birds draws a summons: "That black license plate frame that came with your car? Illegal. $55 fine. Taking up two seats on a train? $50. Feeding pigeons in the park? Another $50. It used to be that most cops wouldn't bother writing a ticket for minor and obscure infractions. But with the city hurting for money, ordinary citizens suddenly are finding themselves shelling out hard-earned cash to pay fines for things they didn't even know were against the law." John 16:33

Gender gap persists in teenagers' writing skill: "Boys are catching up to girls on a national writing test, but almost half of the country's 16-year-old boys write with so many errors their answers are barely comprehensible." This tragedy is a feminist dream come true. See Mine is the Power and Isaiah 3:5-12

Women in Combat: "Many are calling for President Bush to change the Clinton policies that put women into combat areas. And well he should. However, those who value the role of women as mothers and nurturers, have already lost the next generation who are enrolled in the indoctrination camps called public schools...." Brainwashing in America

(A new perspective on last week's news) Evangelical leaders condemn anti-Islam comments: "Leading evangelical Christians for the first time have publicly condemned assaults on Islam by the Rev. Franklin Graham and other fellow religious conservatives and pledged to heal rifts with Muslims that threaten missionary work overseas. The evangelicals said that the derisive comments endangered Christians working in the Muslim world [and] strained already tense interfaith relations...

"Paul Marshall, senior fellow at the Center for Religious Freedom, a human rights group, said anti-Islam comments serve only to antagonize people. 'Exactly what is to be achieved by that except boosting the ego of who said it?' he asked....

"The evangelical group and the Institute on Religion and Democracy, a conservative Christian organization, are drafting guidelines to begin interfaith dialogue with Islamic leaders."

Christians are called to speak the truth in love, always ready to reach out to those who are outside God's family. Graham and others who expose the truth about Islam help balance the government and media message that Islam is a "good" and "peaceful" religion which worships the Biblical God. As followers of Jesus, we must share His love for the lost and refuse to bend to a politically correct interfaith "consensus."  See Twisting Truth through Group Consensus and Chronology of Conquests in the Name of Allah and Faith under Fire in Sudan

Four arrested in Italian baby organ scandal: "Italian police have arrested four Ukrainians believed to be part of an international crime ring in which women gave birth to babies in order to sell their organs.... One was the mother of a baby born just days ago. The gang had attempted to sell the baby to undercover officers for 50,000 (£35,844). The four have been charged with attempted enslavement as well as other crimes."

Another sign of the sinking depravity of man separated from God and His moral standards. Human life has no worth beyond its market value or its use for sexual gratification. See Deut 28:15

Ministers Asked to Curb Remarks About Islam: "Evangelical Christian leaders from across the country called yesterday for fellow ministers such as Jerry Falwell, Franklin Graham and Pat Robertson to stop making broad, inflammatory remarks about Islam. 'Since we are in a global community, no doubt about it, we must temper our speech," said the Rev. Ted Haggard, president of the National Association of Evangelicals, which organized the gathering of about 40 pastors, missionaries and heads of religious charities that are active in Muslim countries.

"The conference... represented the first organized effort by fundamentalist Christian groups to rein in their rhetoric and agree on guidelines about what -- and what not -- to say about Islam. The primary motivation, speakers made clear, is concern that remarks intended for a domestic constituency have reverberated through the Islamic world, inflamed Muslim governments, sparked riots, endangered Christian aid workers and made missionary efforts harder....

"What we have to do as evangelical leaders is offer a constructive critique of these sweeping generalizations about Islam that are either fawning on one end, or hostile on the other," said Richard Cizik, vice president of the NAE."

We want to serve, not endanger, God's mission and His faithful missionaries. That means "speaking the truth in love," asking God's guidance and letting His Word and Spirit, not human politics and pressures guide our message. Pray that this cultural globalization will not restrict our freedom to express Biblical truth. Matthew 10:16-22 and Four Faces of Islam

Chicago's Rain of Meteorites: "...residents of several Midwestern states witnessed a dazzling — and, to many, frightening — spectacle in the sky. A brilliant fireball appeared over central Illinois and moved north, ending its fiery descent through the atmosphere in at least two bright flashes just south of Chicago. Powerful sonic booms soon shook the landscape.... Residents have found meteorites on roads, on lawns, and in woods. One 3-kilogram chunk crashed through a resident's roof and kitchen floor...." Luke 21:10 For information about solar flares and geomagnetic storms as well as meteor showers, visit spaceweather.com

World Sees Explosion of Infectious Diseases: "SARS is just one of three dozen infectious diseases that environmental, economic, social and scientific changes have unleashed on the world in just the past 30 years. Others include such horrors as Ebola, AIDS, Hantavirus, West Nile, Nipah and Hendra.

“'This period from the 1970s is without precedent in the history of the annals of medicine,' [said] Dr. Paul Epstein, associate director of Harvard Medical School’s Center for Health and Global Environment." Matthew 24:7

Why I hate WAL-MART: "Wal-Mart is the nation's (and the world's) biggest retailer.... Only a company of their size can buy direct from manufacturers, cutting out the distributor. They buy so cheaply they can resell to other stores at cheaper than wholesale. Thus they can ruin the competition through PREDATORY PRICING....

If a town declines to welcome GodzillaMart, the next town over will take it, pulling trade and tax dollars out of local coffers. The town has no choice - the terms are dictated by the retail giant from afar. Is this right, fair, or decent? ...

"No more mom and pop stores....The concentration of ownership and power, along with treaties like GATT and NAFTA, means more and cruder exploitation of workers everywhere. Jobs flee America.... [Wendy Diaz in Honduras described] what it was like to earn 31 cents an hour, allowed to go to the bathroom only twice a day, be cursed and screamed at, and be able to do nothing about it."

A nation that no longer tolerates the Ten Commandments in public places, that promotes pagan rituals but forbids Christian expressions in its schools, that spreads corrupt entertainment around the world, and that that kills its unborn babies cannot expect God's blessings. See Establishing a Global Spirituality  and Don't Mention Jesus. God warned us that if a people would reject His guidelines, He would reject their nation. See Deut 28:15

The liberal arts of stars and stripes: "Mrs. Elliott prides herself on having actively imparted to her children a 'healthy skepticism;' raised them to realize the world is 'rarely black-and-white;' and strived to bring 'current affairs into our living room.' But she's out to lunch when it comes to figuring out where her eldest son, Oliver, picked up his rancorous attitudes." 2 Timothy 3:1-14

Is the Bible hate literature? "Some Christians... are concerned about a proposal to add 'sexual orientation' to the hate propaganda law of the [Canadian] Criminal Code....

"Rev. Dr. Martin Kreplin of St. Andrew's, Moncton, says that would make reading and discussing certain scriptural passages about homosexual activity a hate crime. 'The Scriptures speak specifically about homosexuality, and it might be construed as hateful,' he said. 'To be allowed to preach on some subjects but not other subjects because it's considered hateful is a serious concern. It impinges on freedom of speech as well as religion.'...

"Ruth Ross, executive director of the Christian Legal Fellowship... cites two cases: Mark Harding, who was convicted in Ontario for hate crimes for literature he printed on Islam, and Hugh Owens, who was fined under the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code for an advertisement featuring several biblical references on homosexuality."

Mark Harding's daughter attends a school in Toronto that has banned Christian prayer but provides a special room for Muslim prayer. When the concerned father published and distributed a brochure that exposed this preferential treatment, he apparently was charged with 'hate crime' and ‘sentenced to 340 hours of Islamic indoctrination.' See Matthew 10:16-22

Sewage Puts a New Spin on SARS: "Hong Kong's health secretary, Dr. Yeoh Eng-kiong, said this week that sewage is responsible for SARS infecting 321 people at the Amoy Gardens high-rise apartment complex in Hong Kong.... Health officials have reported that SARS patients who live in Amoy Gardens are coming down with particularly virulent cases of the disease, as are health-care workers who have caught the virus from those patients." Matthew 24:7 and Psalm 32:7

World Views & Earth Day: "If God is God, then we are creatures who are created by Him. We are contingent beings. He is non-contingent. He makes the rules. We follow them.... [by His wonderful grace, not by our own strength.] 1 Thess 5:24

"There are other world views, of course, like atheism. If God does not exist, it seems to me there are other pieces to the package, too. If God does not exist, there is no justification for morality and morality is simply what people choose to decide at any given point. Next week they can change it. That's part of the package. ..." Japanese firms curb travel to Singapore and other SARS-infected areas: "Many Japanese firms are now restricting travel by employees to Singapore and other Asian cities infected with the deadly SARS virus. Sony is banning all business travel to Hong Kong and southern China, and asking staff to postpone or limit trips to Singapore, even private visits." Matthew 24:7

March 2003

Fear of new virus grows as Hong Kong 0fficial falls ill: "Other Asian countries are also becoming increasingly worried, with Singapore announcing tonight that it would use a seldom-invoked law to quarantine 740 people in their homes for 10 days, with the threat of stiff fines if they venture out....

"The disease has particularly infected doctors and nurses, apparently because patients become extremely infectious when they are very ill, and Dr. Ho had been visiting sick doctors and nurses at the hospitals he oversees." Matthew 24:7

Schools Ask Parents to Hide Kids From Military Recruiters: "Two school districts in California have encouraged families to adopt a 'don't tell' policy with their children...."  Matt 24:7

Do-gooder fired: "A single mom was fired from her part-time job delivering pizza after rushing to the aid of a gunshot victim while she was still on the clock.... The man who was lying on the floor had been shot in the stomach, and police or ambulance officials were yet to arrive. McAulay said she quickly made the decision to do what she could to help....

"'I can't leave the scene, I've been asked to help. It was my civil duty,' she said. 'I hope someone would do the same for me.' She sat with the victim, kept him awake by talking to him and pressed pillows on his wound to slow the bleeding." Acts 5:29

Superbug strain hits the healthy: "A drug-resistant superbug that spreads by skin contact is infecting thousands of people across the US and may now have reached Europe. The MRSA bacterium, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, can be resistant to many antibiotics....

"Most of those infected are gay men, but the superbug is certainly not restricted to this group. Athletes, schoolchildren and newborns have all fallen victim." Matthew 24:7

February 2003

British TV appoints Muslim as head of religion: "Channel 4 said yesterday that while there had been no 'conscious decision' to appoint a Muslim, it was committed to encouraging religious and ethnic diversity at the station....The corporation provoked an outcry in 2001 when it broke with tradition by appointing an agnostic, Alan Bookbinder, as its head of religion and ethics. His predecessor, the Rev Ernest Rea, had resigned seven months earlier, accusing the BBC of sidelining religion and 'dancing to a secular tune'." An interesting progression: from Christian to agnostic to Muslim. See Chart: Three Cultural Paradigms

Video Shows People Doing Nothing To Aid Shooting Victim: "Police have released a videotape showing witnesses doing nothing to help a man after he was fatally shot at a gas station. The station surveillance tape shows the Jan. 31 slaying of Allen Price, 43. It also shows one man continuing to pump kerosene after looking briefly at the body. He then pays for the kerosene and drives off." 2 Timothy 3:1-14

Crybabies in the courtroom: "Now, if this all had happened in 2003, and if my mom and I had been properly brainwashed by the cult of victimology, we all know where my little tale would have ended: In court. In the 21st century, no bad slur goes unlitigated. No playground bully goes un-subpoenaed. No hypersensitive wallflower goes uncompensated. Can't take a dumb joke? Sue."

New World Trade Center Site Design Concepts: "Two Designs Under Consideration." Look at the next two links and see how globalist leaders are using this opportunity to promote their ideology.

1. Rebuilding Ground Zero: "The moral obligation in rebuilding Ground Zero is not just how best to remember those who perished in this tragedy, but how to make their memory the inspiration for a better future.... Ground Zero should emerge from this tragedy as the first truly Global Center, a place where people can gather to celebrate cultural diversity in peaceful and productive coexistence." This fits the stated vision of Episcopal Dean Morton, spoken during the 1996 UN conference in Istanbul. See Solidarity

2. Daniel Libeskind: "...We have to be able to enter this hallowed, sacred ground while creating a quiet, meditative and spiritual space."

Biology Professor Refuses to Recommend Students Who Don't Believe in Evolution: "A biology professor who refuses to write letters of recommendation for his students if they don't believe in evolution is being accused of religious discrimination...." See What Darwin didn't know
