Question: Could you tell me where in the Bible it refers to what happens when we die?  My sister-in-law just passed away yesterday and I was trying to find a  passage that might explain what happens after we die. I know there is one that tells us we will sleep until the resurrection, but couldn't remember where it was.

Answer: I am glad you are asked, because the more we know of the eternal life God offers believers, the less we need to fear death.

The answer lies in God's Word, especially His promises to those who trust and follow Him. To find many of His most encouraging promises to His people, simply click on God's promised eternity. There, scroll down the blue side  of the page. Visit two pages: "The dead will be raised" and "Our new bodies."

On each of the two pages, choose a topic at the top of the page. Then just scroll down, clicking on all the relevant Scriptures.

As for sleeping until the resurrection, that's true. At a God's scheduled time, all believers -- whether dead or alive -- will meet Jesus together (1 Timothy 4 -- the first Scripture listed on the page mentioned earlier). But God also has an eternal perspective which transcend our view of time. He is not limited to months and years as we know them. Therefore Jesus could say to the thief on the cross next to Him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."  Luke 23:43
