e that fear the Lord, praise Him, all the seed of Jacob; glorify Him and
fear Him, all ye the seed of Israel. For He hath not despised nor abhorred
the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath He hid His face from him, but
when he cried unto Him, He heard- Psalm 22:23-24
Affliction is a school of virtue, it corrects levity and interrupts the
confidence of sinning - Francis Attenbury
As sure as God puts His children in the furnace of affliction, He will be
with them in it - C. H. Spurgeon
Extraordinary afflictions are not always the punishment of extraordinary
sin, but sometimes the trail of extraordinary graces. Sanctified afflictions
are spiritual promotions -Matthew Henry
Christ leads me through no darker room that He went through before - Richard
Baxter
Turn Thee unto me and have mercy upon me, for I am desolate and afflicted.
The troubles of my heart are enlarged; O bring Thou me out of my distresses.
Look upon my affliction and pain, and forgive me all my sins. Consider mine
enemies; for they are many, and they hate me with cruel hatred. O keep my
soul, and deliver me; let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in Thee -
Psalm 25:16-20
God washed the eyes by tears until they can behold the invisible land where
tears shall come no more. O love! O affliction! Ye are the guides that show
us the way through the great airy space where our loved ones walked, and as
hounds easily follow the scent before the dew be risen, so God teaches us,
while yet our sorrow is wet, to follow us on and find our dears ones in
heaven - Henry Ward Beecher
The loss of a beloved connections awakens an interest in heaven before
unfelt > Christian Nestell Boyee
Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction; Lord, I have called daily upon
Thee. I have stretched out my hands unto Thee - Psalm 88:9
PRAYING NOW
> Tried & Tested Christians should be praying now for those people that will
suffer hardship and affliction. Some people will believe that they have no
future. Oh to be without hope is devastating. Some people will feel that
they have no friends -loneliness is a killer!
> Tried & True Christians should be praying night and day for those that
will be burdened down with various afflictions. Some people will be so
shaken that they will believe that they have no foundation. Since they have
no hope, they have nothing or no one to hold on to.
>Tried and True Christians should be praying -knowing that many people will
be afflicted by disease, despair, and even death. Some people will feel or
believe that they have no faith. If they come to a place of "no faith" then
they will have 1) no expectation in prayer, and 2) no explanation for their
problems and trials.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far
more exceeding and eternal which are not seen; for the things which are seen
are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal - 2 Corinthians
4:17-18
God never allows pain without a purpose in the lives of His children. He
never allows Satan, not circumstances, not any ill-intending person to
afflict us unless He uses that affliction for our good. God never wastes
pain. He always causes it to work together for our ultimate good, the good
of conforming us more to the likeness of His Son (see Romans 8:28-29).
The Lord gets His best soldiers out of the highlands of affliction - C. H.
Spurgeon
*Affliction may be lasting, but it is not everlasting.
PLANNING NOW
>Tough Christians should be planning now to help those that soon will be in
need of compassion and comfort. Many people will be afflicted with emotional
and physical pain and will be in dire need of a helping hand and
understanding heart.
>Tough Christians should be planning now to help provide medical supplies
and food and water to those in need. They should be "tough" and give up
their pleasure and wants and use what resources they now have, to build up a
store of supplies.
The Lord afflicts us at times, but it is always a thousand times less than
we deserve, and much less than many of our fellow-creatures are suffering
around us. Let us therefore pray for grace to be humble, thankful, and
patient - John Newton
There is no attitude of God more comforting to His children than the
doctrine of Divine Sovereignty. Under the most adverse circumstances, in the
most severe troubles, they believe that Sovereignty hath ordained their
afflictions, the Sovereignty overrules them, and that Sovereignty will
sanctify them all - C. H. Spurgeon
Affliction was a sting, but with w wing; sorrow shall soon fly away - Thomas
Watson
No words can express how much the world owes to sorrow. Most of the Psalms
were born in the wilderness. Most of the Epistles were written in a prison.
The greatest thoughts of the greatest thinkers have all passed through the
fire. The greatest poets have "learned in suffering what they taught in
song." In bonds Bunyan lived the allegory that he after-wards wrote, and we
may thank Beford Jail for the Pilgrim's Progress. TAKE COMFORT AFFLICTED
CHRISTIAN! When God is about to make pre-eminent use of a person, He put
them into the fire> George MacDonald
PLEADING NOW
>Tender Christians should be pleading now -asking the Lord for the needed
strength and stamina to help those soon to suffer affliction. They should be
requesting more resources and supplies in order to meet the needs of those
that will be e suffering loss and pain.
>Tender Christians should be pleading night and day for the wisdom to do
what is needed in the coming times of confusion. Some people will be
completely unable to function when the chaos hits the country. Some people
will be totally unprepared for the economic looses and will be in dire
straights.
There are some things good but not pleasant, as sorrow and affliction. Sin
is pleasant (sometimes), but unprofitable; and sorrow is profitable, but
unpleasant. As waters are purest when they are in motion, so saints are
generally holiest when in affliction -William Secker
Affliction and suffering have been appointed by God as instruments He uses
to makes us more holy, to make us more like Jesus. They remind us that we
are weak and we must rely not on ourselves, but on Jesus. They remind us
that this world is not our home but that we are only passing through toward
our real home in Heaven with our Father, our Savior, Jesus Christ, and our
Comforter, the Holy Spirit - Michael Beates
I am mended by my sickness, enriched by my poverty and strengthened by my
weakness... What fools are we, then, to frown upon our afflictions! Those,
how crabbed so ever, are our best friends. They are not intended for our
pleasure they are for our profit.
