1. Chinese troops will have boots on the ground in Hawaii on Tuesday

             by Judi McLeod, 11-8-2013

"For the first time in history the U.S. Army will host the Communist Peoples Republic of China’s Army on American soil Nov. 12-14, 2013. But don’t worry while Chinese soldiers will have boots on the ground in Hawaii, they are only really 'simulating'. “Simulating humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to a fictional third country”.

"You can’t make this stuff up when GridEx 2 is doing it for you. GridEx 2 ... is a massive ‘emergency drill’ planned to take place across the whole of North America with thousands of utility workers, business executives, National Guard officers, FBI antiterrorism experts and officials from government agencies, in the United States, Canada and Mexico (who) are preparing for an emergency drill in November that will simulate physical attacks and cyberattacks that could take down large sections of the power grid. (New York Times, Aug. 16, 2013).

"The exercise is touted as a unified move 'to test the resiliency of the U.S. power grid to withstand major damage causes by a natural disaster or deliberate attack'.

"Fears about the possible detonation of a nuclear warhead in the skies about the United States, for the purposes of creating an electromagnetic pulse aimed at sizzling electronics on the ground, have led a number of public figures to call for significant steps to strengthen the power grid....

“A key objective of GridEx 2 is to learn how governments would handle a loss of electrical power that is large enough to drastically affect the delivery of common and essential goods and services.” (NYT)....

“In relation to our ability to do this with our Chinese counterparts”, he said, “this kind of exercise gives us a place to start, and get into the rhythm of understanding and trusting each other.”

“The joint exercise was announced during an August visit to Washington by Chinese Minister of National Defense Chang Wanquan, as China and the United States expand their military-to-military relationship and explore cooperation opportunities in non-traditional security areas.”

2. Russian Calls on UN to Guard Nuclear Materail in Libya

             November 5, 2013

"Russia has asked the UN Security Council to look into the dangers posed by a badly-guarded stockpile of yellowcake uranium in the Libyan Desert. Recent reports have said that Al-Qaeda is interested in the supply as a potential nuclear weapon component. Russia’s UN envoy, Vitaly Churkin.stressed that Libya remains an issue of 'concern' as it acts as a source of proliferation of weapons and materials related to the production of weapons of mass destruction throughout the region.

"An estimated 6,400 barrels of yellowcake uranium were discovered near the Muammar Gaddafi stronghold of Sabha towards the end of the uprising that resulted in the ruler’s death in October 2011. The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has performed an inventory of the stock – which is kept in an ordinary warehouse, next to an estimated 4,000 surface-to-air missiles previously procured from Russia – and technically maintains control over it."

3. American Blackout A Real Life Nightmare Nearer Than You Think

By R. James Woolsey, Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, 11-2-2013

"Four days before Halloween, on Sunday morning, October 27, 2013, terrorists in Mexico's Michoacan state blacked out the electric grid, leaving some 420,000 powerless and thirteen dead. That same Sunday night, National Geographic JAMES WOOLSEY, DR. PETER VINCENT PRY November 2, 2013aired the docudrama American Blackout.

"This fictionalized account of a cyber attack on the electric grid depicts some of the horrific consequences of a nationwide blackout lasting 10 days: People get trapped in elevators and become virtual prisoners in their high-rise apartment buildings. ...If there is any fault or unrealism in the docudrama, it is that the blackout lasts only 10 days, and recovery is achieved so quickly.

"In real life, terrorists or rogue states would probably not limit their attack on the nation's electric grid to computer viruses or hacking, as implied in the docudrama. ...A nuclear weapon detonated at high-altitude, above 30 kilometers, will generate an electromagnetic pulse that can be likened to a super-energetic radio wave, more powerful than lightning, that can destroy and disrupt electronics across a broad geographic area..."
