no longer sought health and wealth -- the earmark of the apostolic movement -- for their real treasure was laid up for them in heaven. They would rather suffer for Jesus than deny the their Lord.
Today, the same Scripture is twisted to fit our fallen human nature. Loving God means saysing so, not doing so. Swaying and chanting today's enchanted mass meeting sing words such as "I love you God, I love you Lord," but there's little evidence of surrendered lives that give their all to Him. Immorality, promiscuity, pagan principles and occult forces are rampant in their midst.
Two factors brought victory to the early disciples: God's Word and the Holy Spirit given. Peter illustrates the amazing transformation. Before the resurrection, he was fearful, focused on this world, willing to deny Jesus. After receiving the Holy Spirit, he understood the words Jesus had spoken, and he was willing to face utter poverty and painful persecution in order to spread the gospel and free people from bondage to sin and coming judgment.
