From Ms. Jordan ben Maccabee (meaning…the one who is descending from the mountain (Mt. Shasta, CA), with a hammer): Brother, I am a Jew called to Jesus Christ, and I understand implicitly your objections to the Dalai Lama, for he has many graven images, but please realize these are only props to truth. When Buddhism, WHICH SAYS THE TRUTH IS WITHIN, came to Tibet, its chief guru had to fight demons to get it in, for the people were steeped in pagan practices, and these still have not been overcome. The east, in particular, relishes graven images to help it along.
Thank you for the reminder that the Dalai Lama’s Tibetan Buddhism differs from the Buddhism practiced in many other Asian countries. The introduction of Buddhism to Tibet did cause spiritual battles between the old shamanic animism and the newly introduced religion. These struggles were partly resolved through a timeless form of consensus: the two religions simply merged together, forming a new brand kind of Buddhism. Unlike its more common forms which don’t point to a personified deity, Tibetan Buddhism involves faith in a multitude — a hierarchy — of spiritual beings. From a Christian perspective, they would be called demons. See the hierarchy in Eph 6:10-18
But I tell you this, WAS THERE EVER A CHRISTIAN WHO SURRENDERED HIS NATION RATHER THAN FIGHT? WHO IS THAT CHRISTIAN? NONE.And this I tell you: By the time my daughter was 7 I had taken her to synagogues and various churches, where she was so restless I usually had to leave early or not come again, but then I took her to see the Dalai Lama. The child did not move for 2 hours. I asked her 6 months later if she remembered the Dalai Lama. She looked at me and said, “You have many stores in America, but none of them sell love.” She remembered his words perfectly. The guy must have something. There is something beyond anyone’s religious practices (for these are done unto God says Romans, and are to be respected). There is truth, and the Dalai Lama, who gave China his nation without firing a shot (ultimate compassion) has lived what he speaks, for by their fruits you shall know them. What most preachers in America really spend time doing is going to the mall…
Yes, Ms. ben Maccabee, I agree that the Dalai Lama is endowed with spiritual power to influence — even mesmermerize — large crowds and his devoted followers. I appreciate your illustration, for many refuse to acknowledge the existence of such power. I sensed it, too, when I heard him speak.
