Why states are shunning AKA's Stimulus Money: "Louisiana... will not be taking stimulus money that will force expansion of existing programs or the establishing of new programs.... [T]he states are being offered stimulus money with strings attached."
This may be one reason why Obama pressured Congress to pass the stimulus bill without time to read it -- which he had promised.

Couple go on sedition trial: "A CHRISTIAN couple are [Ong Kian Cheong and his wife] arefacing charges of distributing publications that are seditious and objectionable to three Muslims. A prosecution witness... felt the booklet's contents could have easily sparked religious disagreements between Muslims and Christians. The couple's lawyer Selva K. Naidu offered his clients' apologies for hurting Mr Irwan's feelings. But the witness said the damage had been done.... Assistant administrator Isa Raffee... told the court that he believed that the publication was intended to provoke or incite religious and racial hatred as well as convert Muslims to Christians.... Swat Team conducts food raid in rural Ohio: "On Monday, December 1, a SWAT team with semi-automatic rifles entered the private home of the Stowers family in LaGrange, Ohio, herded the family onto the couches in the living room, and kept guns trained on parents, children, infants and toddlers, from approximately 11 AM to 8 PM. The team was aggressive and belligerent. The children were quite traumatized. At some point, the 'bad cop' SWAT team was relieved by another team, a 'good cop' team that tried to befriend the family. The Stowers family has run a very large, well-known food cooperative called Manna Storehouse on the western side of the greater Cleveland area for many years." Doctors Interrogate Children as Informants on Parents' Behavior: "...pediatricians across the United States have begun questioning children about their parents' habits, in some cases even filing police reports based on this information.... 'The doctor wanted to know how much you and mom drink, and if I think it's too much,' Graham reports his daughter saying. 'She asked if you two did drugs, or if there are drugs in the house. The doctor wanted to know how we get along. And if, well, Daddy, if you made me feel uncomfortable.'...
"Graham blames the trend on guidelines issued by the AAP [American Academy of Pediatrics], which classifies parents as 'persons of interest' and encourages doctors to ask children questions in order to uncover inappropriate or illegal behavior....
